Maserati has upgraded the 2017 Maserati Quattroporte lineup with visual and functional changes across the entire lineup. These models include the V6-powered/rear-drive Quattroporte S and all-wheel drive Quattroporte S Q4 S as well as the V8-powered/rear-drive Quattroporte GTS. For 2017, the V6 models will offer buyers the choice of new GranLusso and GranSport option packages created to emphasize the respective luxury or performance character of each while the GTS version will come with one or the other as standard equipment.
Enlightened enhancements
The exterior of the 2017 Quattroporte is sharper thanks to its recast nose highlighted by a more prominent grille with new chrome vertical elements. The new grille conceals a new Air Shutter system to better control underhood temps and trim drag by 10 percent. Maserati’s flagship sedan also boasts new matte-black side skirts, exterior mirrors and rear air extractor.

Inside, the 2017 Quattroporte’s most notable changes include a standard air quality sensor and a redesigned dash. The latter houses a new infotainment system with 8.4-inch high-res touchscreen plus support for Android Auto and Apple CarPlay apps, better integrated climate controls and a more user-friendly console that contains a bigger stow bay, rotary volume and function controls plus a phone box. All versions now offer a new Advanced Driver Assistance Systems package that’s part of the basic GranLusso package. It brings Adaptive Cruise Control with stop/start, lane departure warning, forward collision warning with advanced brake assist and automated emergency braking. That group can be further upgraded with a new Surround View Camera.
Trim level differences
Subtle cosmetic variations inside and out now differentiate the Quattroporte GranLusso from the GranSport. The former features a bit more brightwork and body-color elements on its fascias, 20-inch Mercurio alloy wheels and black brake calipers while the latter opts for gloss black bumpers, more prominent and higher-flow front air intakes, upscale exhaust tips, a Piano Black rear diffuser and 20-inch Titano wheels with a blue Trident in the center cap and red brake calipers. GranSport buyers also can add a supplemental Exterior Carbon Pack to the mix.
Inside, the GranLusso comes with the silk-focused Ermenegildo Zegna Edition interior trim – although conventional full leather is available – as well open-pore Radica wood accents and upgrades that include heated/ventilated seats and power-adjustable pedals. The GranSport spec brings more deeply bolstered leather-covered front/rear seats and Piano Black wood, a sport steering wheel with aluminum shifter paddles and stainless steel sport pedals.

Motivation for the 2017 Maserati Quattroporte carries over unchanged, with a pair of Ferrari-built turbocharged engines. The Quattroporte S and S Q4 models feature a 3.0-liter Twin-Turbo V6 that makes 404 horsepower and 406 lb-ft of torque, sufficient to send the rear-drive version from 0-60 mph in 4.8 seconds and its AWD sibling to that speed in just 4.9 ticks. Both top out at 176 mph. The GTS-spec Quattroporte packs a 3.8-liter V8 that cranks out 523 horses and 524 lb-ft peak twist units, enough firepower to snap off a 0-60 mph sprint in 4.6 seconds en route to a 193 mph top end. As before, both engines are backed by an 8-speed ZF automatic transmission and the Quattroporte’s well-sorted suspension features Maserati’s electronically controlled Skyhook shocks. The 2016 Maserati Quattroporte lineup is slated to arrive in dealers later this month and pricing for all three models will be released shortly.
