Making its debut at the Los Angeles Auto Show, the 2017 Audi R8 V10 Plus Exclusive Edition will be the automaker’s first product sold in America fitted with laser-enhanced LED headlamps. As an even more desirable version of the standard Audi R8 V10 Plus, this mid-engine GT will be limited to just 25 units. Beyond its trick lighting, this supercar also boasts “the full and extensive spectrum of what is available to customers through the Audi Exclusive program.”
While not quite as advanced as the firm’s still Euro-only Matrix LED lights, the new laser units in this ultimate Audi do a better job of slicing through the darkness than conventional LED lamps thanks to a laser module that operates in conjunction with four high-intensity laser diodes. This bundle creates a blue laser beam that is converted into white light used to supplement the existing conventional LED high-beam when the vehicle is traveling at speeds above 40 mph. Audi says the laser-enhanced headlamps project a low, wide beam of light on the road ahead, and they are also the first to be coupled with the automaker’s sequentially-illuminating dynamic front turn signals.
Subtle sense of style
Packing a 5.2-liter/601-horsepower naturally aspirated V10 engine paired with a 7-speed paddle shift S Tronic automatic transmission and stopped by carbon-ceramic brakes, the new R8 V10 Plus Exclusive Edition is finished in an understated Quantum Gray with a carbon fiber front splitter, fixed rear wing and lower diffuser. That low-key look is set off with a titanium black-optic exterior package that adds a gloss anthracite grille and 20-inch alloy wheels with a high-gloss anthracite finish plus a Solar Orange accent stripe on the carbon sideblade and B-pillar.

Inside, the R8 V10 Plus Exclusive Edition is fitted with fixed-back racing-style shell buckets, which like the rest of the cabin are done in Black leather with Signal Orange accents. Other “Exclusive” touches include a diamond-tufted Alcantara headliner, Alcantara trim on the package shelf and in the luggage compartment, custom floor mats and unique “One of 25” matte-carbon illuminated door-sill plates. The 2017 Audi R8 V10 Plus Exclusive Edition will sticker at $230,450, including destination.
