In the mid-1970s, there was a limited edition of Volkswagen Beetles adorned with denim interiors and touches like pants-inspired pockets in the seatbacks. They were called Beetle Jeans, were wildly successful, and remain popular among collectors to this day. So, hey, why not do it again?

Thus, the 2016 Volkswagen Beetle Denim bowed at the L.A. show. Available as a convertible only when it arrives in dealerships in early 2016, the Beetle Denim is a throwback to that popular model. Only 2,000 will be available, with half in white, and the other half in Stonewashed Blue. The convertible top is textured in a dark blue, with a pattern that resembles jeans fabric. Similar to the original, the Beetle Denim will offer a jeans-colored interior, including seat pockets with little red Beetle tabs on them.
New infotainment system
It’s not just about jeans. Also inside will be Volkswagens new infotainment system, which uses a 5.0-inch screen with a faster processor and better graphics. It includes a USB interface, Bluetooth, backup camera, and SD card and AUX input as well.

Otherwise it’s pretty standard-issue VW Beetle convertible, with Volkswagen noting that it will be a "value model" in the Convertible lineup. That means a 1.8-liter turbocharged 4-cylinder engine with 170 horsepower connected to a 6-speed automatic transmission. No prices have been announced, but with that "value" moniker following it around, don’t expect it to exceed the standard Beetle Convertible’s roughly $26,000 price by too much. If you want it, order now, as they’ll likely disappear quickly.
