Following the recent mid-cycle makeover of the 2016 Nissan Altima, the Japanese automaker unveiled a similar redesign in the 2016 Nissan Sentra at the L.A. Auto Show. The remake includes a new exterior look as well as an updated interior. The compact sedan also benefits from the addition of safety and driving technologies usually reserved for more upscale offerings.
The exterior update is designed to bring the Sentra’s look closer to the other vehicles in the Nissan lineup. The new front fascia, grille, fenders and hood combine with the boomerang-shaped headlamps to mimic the look seen on the Altima, all-new Maxima and redesigned Murano. New LED low-beam headlamps with LED signature accents are offered on Sentra SR and SL models. Other exterior features include chrome door handles and window accents, while the sporty SR has its own 5-spoke 17-inch aluminum alloy wheel design, side sill extensions, rear spoiler, fog lights and chrome exhaust tip.

Redesigned cabin
Inside, the 2016 Nissan Sentra sports a new steering wheel similar to the one used on the 370Z sports car, an optional 6-way power driver’s seat, a new center cluster design, new console, shift knob and refined seat fabrics. The instrument panel incorporates a new TFT (Thin Film Transistor) LCD flat panel display, while SV, SR and SL models have a 5.0-inch Advance Drive-Assist Display nestled between the speedometer and tach. Other refinements include the use of soft touch instrument panel cover and door armrests and available leather upholstery.
The 2016 Nissan Sentra also has standard tilt/telescope steering column, power windows, power door locks, remote keyless entry and an AM/FM/CD sound system with four speakers. Options range from dual zone climate control and a Bose premium audio system with 8 speakers to push button ignition and a rear view camera.

Six trim levels
The 2016 Nissan Sentra is powered by a 130-horsepower 1.8-liter 4.-cylinder engine mated to a continuously variable transmission on all but the base model, which can be equipped with a 6-speed manual. There are six models, three in the base S trim level: S 6MT, S Xtronic (CVT) and FE+ S; and the uplevel SV, SR and SL grades. The SV equipment roster has been enhanced with Siri Eyes Free voice recognition, a new meter display with chrome accents, a rear view camera, 5.0-inch center display, Bluetooth connectivity, hand-free text messaging assistant and a leather wrapped steering wheel. The SR model also features 4-wheel disc brakes, sport interior trim and heated front sport seats. The range topping SL includes NissanConnect with Navigation and Mobile Apps, blind spot and rear traffic alerts, heated outside mirrors and 17-inch alloy wheels.
Options include a Technology Package with Intelligent Cruise Control, forward Emergency Braking, while SR and SV have options packages that incorporate a power sliding moonroof. Pricing starts at $16,70 for the 2016 Nissan Sentra S with 6-speed manual, plus $875 destination. The SV model with Driver Assist Package including blind spot and rear cross traffic alerts is expected to cost less than $20,000. Full pricing on all trim level will be announced at a later date.
