Lamborghini didn’t even have a stand at the 2015 Los Angeles auto show, but that doesn’t mean that the Italian exotic car company came to California empty handed. Far from it. On the eve of press days for auto show, the company hosted an event that introduced the latest — and most affordable — iteration of its Huracán V10 supercar. The 2016 Lamborghini Huracán LP 580-2, is the rear-wheel-drive interpretation of the all-wheel-drive Huracán LP 610-4 and open-top LP 610-4 Spyder models.

The "580" in the new Lambo’s name indicates the horsepower for the rear-drive Huracán’s 5.2-liter V10, while the "-2" points to its 2-wheel-drive status. All of the Huracán’s sharp-edged ducting and styling cues are present on the LP 580-2, though the changes to the nose and tail bodywork are just subtle enough to give the car a touch of exclusivity from its all-wheel-drive brethren.

Lighter, faster

By the numbers, the Huracán LP 580-2 paints a memorable picture. At 3,062 pounds, the car weighs about 73 pounds less than the LP 610-4 and can shred from 0 to 100 kilometers per hour (about 62 mph) in a mere flickering of 3.4 seconds. Top speed is 199 mph, the new supercar standard.

Also significant about the new Huracán LP 580-2 is its price, which Lamborghini promises will be under $200,000 which is apparently the point above which most exotic car shoppers decide to buy the yacht instead. The 2016 Lamborghini Huracán LP 580-2 will be arriving in U.S. showrooms this spring.
