Applying a well-proven formula pioneered on its larger Grand Cherokee sibling, the 2016 Jeep Cherokee lineup now includes a new Overland trim that brings cosmetic and functional enhancements to this compact 5-passenger model. “The new Cherokee Overland model is a direct response to consumers looking for benchmark 4×4 capability that only Jeep can offer, in a stunning, more luxurious package loaded with premium amenities,” said Mike Manley, Head of Jeep Brand – FCA Global at the vehicle’s debut at the New England International Auto Show being in Boston.
Highly comfortable and competent
Set atop the current Sport, Latitude, Limited and Trailhawk lineup, the new Cherokee Overland 4×4 builds on the already well-appointed Limited 4×4 trim grade. Exterior revamps bring body-color fascias/door-cladding/wheel flares, a bright front grille and chin extension, 18-inch polished bright-aluminum wheels, HID bi-xenon headlamps and an “Overland” badge on its power liftgate. The plush cabin includes power-assisted heated/ventilated front seats, Nappa leather upholstery, a leather-covered dash and steering wheel — the latter set off with Zebrano wood trim – bright door sill plates and Berber carpeted floor mats. The Cherokee Overland also boasts an Alpine Premium Audio system, Uconnect 8.4AN AM/FM radio with 8.4-in. touchscreen display, Bluetooth, Navigation, HD Radio, SiriusXM Travel Link andTraffic as well as Uconnect Access Advantage. The driver’s features a memory function that stores settings for the radio and exterior mirrors. This top Cherokee offering also comes with blind spot monitoring and rear crosspath detection, the Parksense rear-backup-assist system and a premium insulation group.

Fitted with Jeep’s Active Drive II 4×4 system that includes a dual-range transfer case and Select-Terrain traction control, the new Cherokee Overland also comes with a 2.4-liter/184-horsepower MultiAir 4-cylinder engine and 9-speed automatic transmission. Models equipped with the optional 271-horse/3.2-liter Pentastar V6 as part of the Heavy Duty Protection Package also have skid plates and a full-size spare tire. The other available upgrade is the Technology Group that adds advanced Brake Assist, auto high-beam headlamps, LaneSense Departure Warning Plus with Lane Keep Assist, Forward Collision Warning-Plus, Parallel and Perpendicular Park Assist, adaptive cruise control with stop and go, ParkSense front/rear park assist with rear stop, rain-sensitive wipers, a wireless charging pad, remote CD player, engine block heater and sunroof.
The 2016 Jeep Cherokee Overland will arrive in showrooms this spring and carry a starting price of $34,495.
