2016 Hyundai Sonata adds Apple CarPlay

Hyundai has started producing 2016 Sonata models with Apple CarPlay in addition to the existing Android Auto. As with Android Auto, the CarPlay is be available on models equipped with the 7.0-inch Display Audio and Navigation-equipped Sonatas that have an 8.0-inch screen. CarPlay will use a Lightning connector and work with iPhone 5 and newer models running iOS 7.1 or higher operating systems.

“Sonatas with CarPlay are rolling off our assembly line in Montgomery, Alabama, and arriving at Hyundai dealerships nationwide,” said Mike O’Brien, vice president, corporate and product planning, Hyundai Motor America. O’Brien also noted the automaker will detail plans about CarPlay in the 2016 Sonata Hybrid and Plug-in Hybrid at a later date and have an announcement shortly about retrofitting CarPlay on existing 2015 Sonatas with navigation as well as 2016 Sonatas with Display Audio or navigation.

Hyundai says it’s currently developing upgrades on 2015 and early-build 2016 Sonata vehicles that involves revising the on-board navigation map and that when the fix is ready, owners will receive the update and CarPlay support at no additional cost.
