Set for a May debut, Chevrolet has released some new information about how much change we can expect in the fully redesigned 2016 Camaro. The short answer is that save for its name, pretty much everything else goes. According to Chevy, the sole components the sixth generation car will share with the current iteration are a Bowtie emblem on its taillamp and the SS badge. Although the Gen 6 Camaro is based on GM’s Alpha platform that also underpins the Cadillac ATS and CTS, Mark Reuss, GM executive vice president, Global Product Development, notes that over 70 percent of the architecture will be unique to Chevy’s pony car. The changes were required to accommodate the car’s different exterior and interior dimensions, front/rear suspension, powertrain and its all-new interior. "The minute you see – and hear – the Gen 6, you know it’s a Camaro, from the stance to the driving experience to the sound of the Small Block V-8," Reuss said.

The 2016 Camaro features a completely reworked front structure. In addition to being longer to create a dash-to-axle ratio to retain its classic proportions it also has a wider to track that contributes to greater stability and a more confident feel when cornering. The new Camaro’s 6.2-liter LT1 V8 is also substantially reworked. Some 20 percent of it has been specifically modified for Gen 6 duty, including the use of new "Tri-Y" tubular exhaust manifolds seen here. We expect Chevy to offer up additional data about the 2016 Camaro in the weeks to come.
