Life with our long term 2015 VW Golf TSI has settled into a routine where it is offers everything you’d expect from a well-built, handsome 5-door hatchback. Plenty of room, good performance, decent fuel economy and seamless operation. It’s the kind of car that you can slip behind the wheel and motor off without thinking-the controls are intuitive, the visibility good and the 2.0-liter turbocharged 4-cylinder engine has enough zip to bring a smile to your face as you effortlessly merge into and wend through freeway traffic.

It’s this ability to blend into everyday life that is one of the virtues of the TSI. It does lack the edge of the quicker and more spirited GTI or the sheer mechanicalness and high fuel economy of the TDI. So far, we’ve seen mileage vary from 25 to 30 mpg, depending on us-the high end coming on road trips, the low end in the grind of freeway commuting.

Routine warning

One unexpected routine with the car is the seemingly regularity that the low air pressure warning comes on for the right front tire. There may be a slow leak, but the pressure doesn’t seem to be off my much. We’ve added a bit of air and reset the warning light-a fairly simple task that’s accomplished through a menu in the center console. We’ll have both the tire and the sensor checked out when the car goes in for its 5,000 mile checkup soon.

That anomaly aside, the VW Golf has so far delivered as promised. We’ll have more to report after our service trip soon.
