2015 Mustang GT King Cobra packs 600+ street-legal horsepower

While most of Ford‘s SEMA offerings were largely the work of outside tuners, one of the hottest and arguably the coolest was created in house using factory parts from the Ford Racing catalog. Although the 2015 Mustang GT King Cobra is a technical one-off, save for its exotic custom snakeskin paint job, this street-and-strip ultra-performance machine can be replicated by any 2015 Mustang GT owner. "At Ford Racing, we like to push cars to their absolute limit," noted Jamie Allison, director, Ford Racing. "We think the King Cobra package is it."

The Mustang GT King Cobra is based on a classic power trio of hardware upgrades which are the first developed by Ford Racing for the new-gen 2015 Mustang. At its heart the Super Pack that fortifies the GT’s 5.0-liter V8 with a 2.3L Twin Vortices Series (TVS) supercharger setup co-developed and co-branded by Ford Racing and Roush Performance. In addition to the its high-capacity force-feeder, the hardware kit includes a six-rib belt drive, intake manifold, electronic throttle body, air inlet system, fuel rail, high-flow fuel injectors and an air-to-liquid intercooler system, all  controlled by Ford Racing performance-spec computer calibration. The collective engine mods bump output from 400 to 600+ horsepower, sufficient to send an early version of the King Cobra on street slicks through the quarter mile in a blistering 10.97 seconds.

To best control that additional underhood might, the Mustang GT King Cobra also boasts a Drag Pack that adds heavy-duty half shafts and a rear sub-frame kit with high-performance bushings along with a Handling Pack that drops ride height by an inch and brings unique rear shocks and a stabilizer bar kit. At the moment, there’s no plan to add a King Cobra variant to the Mustang model lineup, but who knows what the future may bring.
