2015 Mini John Cooper Works Hardtop to bow

The most powerful Mini model to date made its world debut at the North American International Auto Show in Detroit. The 2015 Mini John Cooper Works (JCW) 2-door hardtop boasts 228 horsepower from its twin power 2.0-liter 4-cylinder engine and will be priced at $30,600 plus $850 delivery.

In addition to its high horsepower (which is nearly 40 percent more than the Cooper S model), the JCW Hardtop also produces 236 lb ft of torque which enables the hot hatch to accelerate to 60 mph in 5.9 seconds with the 6-speed Steptronic automatic with paddle shifts, which is three-tenths of a second quicker than previous JCW models. The 6-speed manual is slightly slower at 6.1 seconds. 

Improved aerodynamics, bigger brakes

The all-new 2015 Mini John Cooper Works Hardtop is fitted with an aerodynamic kit that includes a new rear spoiler and larger front fascia openings flanked by additional air inlets that reduces drag and boosts engine performance. A rear apron incorporating a diffuser also helps to optimize aerodynamic performance.

Fitted with either 17- or 18-inch light alloy wheels, the JCW Hardtop also benefits from a high performance brake system engineered by Brembo, with the fixed calipers on the disc brake system painted red.

Sport seats for additional support

As befitting a performance-oriented Mini, the 4-passenger 2015 JCW Hardtop features new sport seats with additional bolstering, integrated headrests and specific upholstery that feature a choice of fabric or leather in Dinamica/Carbon Black. The seats are complemented by a leather-clad sport steering wheel with built-in multifunction buttons, stainless steel pedals, anthracite roof liner and JCW specific gear lever and entry sills.

Drivers can select from three control modes, Green for efficient driving, Mid for normal operation and Sport for maximum performance. These different levels control shift points, accelerator response, steering weight and exhaust note. An optional sport instrument display is available with the Sport Chrono package, while driver assistance systems can also be ordered which include active cruise control, collision and pedestrian warning with brake assist, road sign detection, park distance control, a rearview camera and head-up display.

High level of standard equipment

As one of the top models in the Mini range, the 2015 JCW Hardtop comes with a comprehensive list of standard equipment including dual zone automatic climate control, automatic headlamps and rain-sensing windshield wipers. Options include a panoramic sunroof, heated front seats and custom exterior graphics.

The 2015 Mini John Cooper Works Hardtop is expected to go on sale date this spring.
