The new 2015 Mercedes-Benz SL400 arriving in showrooms will carry a base price of $84,925. Motivated by a 329-horsepower/3.0-liter twin-turbo V6 in place of the SL550’s 429-horse twin-turbo V8, this latest "entry-level" addition to the iconic SL family boasts many upscle touches found on the current SL550 but costs $22,900 less.

Although giving away 100 horsepower to the SL550, the SL400 still manages the benchmark 0-60 mph sprint in a brisk 5.1 seconds, a mere half second off of the SL550’s pace. Beyond a paddle-shift 7-speed automatic transmission, power retractable hardtop with panorama roof, semi-active suspension with active damping and a comprehensive array of safety features, the two cars also share things like sun-reflecting leather upholstery, wood/aluminum accent trim, heated power seats, harman/kardon Logic7 sound system, COMAND telematics with navigation, a power wind blocker and rain-sensing wipers with M-B’s Magic Vision Control.
