2015 GMC Sierra Denali boasts first truck use of magnetic ride

In updating its 2015 GMC Sierra Denali, GM’s truck division now offers the upscale pickup with magnetic ride control dampers, which allow for a more refined ride without sacrificing payload or trailering capability. The feature, the first such application on a light truck, is standard on all Sierra Denali half-ton models whether equipped with the standard 355-horsepower 4.3-liter V8 or the optional 420 horse 6.2-liter V8.

The new system incorporates the use of shocks filled with magneto-rheological fluid that when magnetically charged can provide damping resistance within milliseconds, reacting much faster than conventional shocks which use valves to control variable damping rates. This allows the suspension to literally read road irregularities and react almost instantaneously to bumps. "With magnetic ride control, the 2015 Sierra Denali delivers a smoother, more confident driving experience with sacrificing the capabilities customers expect from a GMC truck", said Jeff Luke, the division’s executive chief engineer.

Enhanced connectivity

In addition to offering magnetic ride control, the 2015 GMC Sierra Denali offers a new level of connectivity with text messaging alerts, OnStar with 4G LTE and built-in Wi-Fi hotspot and a three-month 3GB data trial.

Offered in only a crew cab body configuration, the Denali is the most luxurious model in the GMC lineup and features a signature chrome grille, projector-style headlamps, 20-inch chromed wheels and polished stainless steel exhaust tips. Inside accents include bright door sills, embossed Denali logos in the seats and rear aluminum trim. Other features include heated and cooled front seats, a heated steering wheel and an 8-inch touchscreen with navigation.
