- Chevrolet Silverado, Suburban, Tahoe; GMC Sierra, Yukon; Cadillac Escalade affected
- More than a million vehicles involved in campaign
- Only 2 percent are estimated to have steering defect
General Motors is recalling 1,015,918 2015 model year light duty trucks including Chevrolet Silverado and GMC Sierra half-ton pickups, Chevrolet Tahoe, Suburban and GMC Yukon and Cadillac Escalade SUVs, to check for a possible steering defect that could result in the sudden loss of electric power assist in the steering system. Only 2 percent of the recalled vehicles are estimated to have the issue.
According to NHTSA, the electric power assist on the steering could momentarily cut out and then resume, making the vehicle difficult to steer in turning maneuvers and which could cause an accident.
GM will be notifying the owners by mail and will inspect the vehicles and make necessary repairs at no charge. Owners can check their vehicle’s Vehicle Identification Number (VIN) at NHTSA’s recall website here to see if the recall affects them.
