The all-new 2014 Nissan Rogue has become the latest compact SUV to earn Top Safety Pick+ honors from the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety. It joins the 2014 Mazda CX-5, Mitsubishi Outlander and Subaru Forester which also have received the highest TSP+ mark.

The redesigned Rogue grabbed TSP honors by generating "Good" scores in the basic IIHS categories, which now include front impact, side impact, roof strength and head restraints/seats as well as the more recently added small-front-offset crash regimen. It stepped up to TSP+ status by also offering an optional front crash prevention system that meets the basic criteria for passenger protection established by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA).

The IIHS notes that the new TSP+ rating only applies to the all-new 2014 Rogue and not the carryover 2013 design sold as the Nissan Rogue Select. That model carries a Marginal overall rating in the demanding small-offset test and does not offer any type of front crash prevention technology.
