While there’s still no official decision as to whether we’ll see a 4-door version of the latest Mitsubishi model here in America, the automaker did choose to offer an early look at the 2014 Mitsubishi Mirage G4 Sedan north of the border this week at the Montreal Auto Show. Save for its more production-spec detailing, the car on display in Canada is a virtual design clone of the Mirage G4 Sedan Concept that debuted last April in Shanghai and that’s currently on sale in several Asian markets. Ostensibly being presented to Canadian consumers to assess potential interest in that country, the car also is expected to turn up here in April at the New York Auto Show.

Not surprisingly, the G4 Sedan shares all key platform and mechanical elements with its recently introduced 2014 Mitsubishi Mirage Hatchback sibling. That includes the 1.2-liter/74-horsepower MIVEC 3-cylinder gasoline engine and a CVT automatic transmission that give this compact offering superb 37/44 mpg city/highway EPA numbers — best in class of any non-hybrid/non-diesel model. If it does turn up here, you can also anticipate it will feature the same kind of value-oriented pricing as the Mirage 5-door, which starts at $13,790 when fitted with a 5-speed manual transmission or $14,790 with the CVT trans.
