2014 Lamborghini Gallardo LP 570-4 Squadra Corse revealed

With the next-gen Gallardo due sometime next year, Lamborghini is planning to give the current model a fast and furious send-off next month at the Frankfurt Auto Show. A potent variation on the Gallardo Super Trofeo that competes in a one-make European racing series, the 2014 Lamborghini Gallardo LP 570-4 Squadra Corse will be the fastest and most extreme version of the car to ever hit the streets – including those in America.

Named after Lambo’s recently established competition department, the new LP 570-4 Squadra Corse uses the same mid-mounted 562-horspower V10 as the Super Trofeo as well as its paddle-shifted 6-speed automated manual transaxle and high-tech all-wheel drive system. The automaker says that formidable combination will take the Squadra Corse from 0-62 mph in 3.4 seconds and send it hurtling on to a max velocity of 199 mph. In addition to its performance-tuned suspension, the Squadra Corse features carbon-ceramic brakes.

Extensive use of carbon fiber composite helps trim 154 pounds from the curb weight of this new ultra-Lambo compared to a standard Gallardo LP 560-4. Included in that mass-reduction program are two performance-enhancing elements also borrowed from the Super Trofeo: a lightweight, carbon fiber engine cover and a carbon fiber rear wing that provides triple the downforce of the airfoil on the LP 560-4.

To be offered in Giallo Midas (yellow), Bianco Monocerus (white), Grigio Thalasso (grey) and Rosso Mars (red), the exterior of the LP 570-4 Squadra Corse is set off with gloss-black accents, including its 19-inch forged-alloy wheels. Inside, carbon fiber that dominates the semi-Spartan scene is set off with Alcantara accents. In a nod to potential real-world buyers, Lamborghini plans to offer more accommodating “comfort seats” as an option in place of the car’s standard racing buckets.

While Lamborghini has confirmed that the 2014 Gallardo LP 570-4 Squadra Corse will be coming to the U.S. in at least limited numbers, there’s still no word on its exact pricing or ETA. We expect more details when the Squadra Corse makes its official public debut in Frankfurt.
