Good news for those who’ve been pining for a more potent version of the Honda CR-Z Sport Hybrid. The trick supercharger package first seen on a Project CR-Z at the 2013 SEMA Show will now be available directly from Honda for all 2011-2014 CR-Z models with the 6-speed manual transmission. While not yet confirmed by Honda, it’s also expected to carry over for the largely unchanged 2015 CR-Z that goes on sale next month. Developed by the automaker’s Honda Performance Division, the new blower setup pumps output of the 2013-2014 CR-Z’s IMA hybrid system from 130 horsepower to 197 — slightly less on 2011-2012 models that corralled only 122 ponies.

The new HDP supercharger kit lists at $5,494 plus installation and also includes an HPD air-to-air intercooler, high-flow fuel injectors, an ECU calibrated to meet CARB AT-PZEV regulations using 91 octane fuel and an HPD air filter system for the 1.5-liter/4-cylinder engine. Harder-core enthusiasts who opt for the supercharger upgrade also will be able to have their cars fitted with an optional HPD-developed limited-slip differential and sport clutch. Best of all, the HPD supercharger kit maintains the balance of the buyer’s 5-year/ 60,000-mile Honda limited powertrain warranty when it’s installed by a Honda dealer. The new blower package joins the other dedicated CR-Z Sport Hybrid exhaust, suspension, brake, wheel/tire and body kit components already included in the HPD catalog.

"The CR-Z was the first hybrid to prove that efficiency doesn’t have to come at the cost of sportiness and fun," said Art St. Cyr, president of Honda Performance Development. "With HPD street performance accessories, including the new supercharger kit, the CR-Z will surprise everyone again with even higher levels of performance directly inspired by our on-track racing efforts."
