Stepping up its performance game for the new model year, the 2014 BMW M6 Coupe, Gran Coupe and Convertible will be available with a new Competition Package. Offering the same hardware/software enhancements found on the M5 version of this new option, it adds both quickness and agility to their already impressive dynamic profiles.

Buyers of any 2014 BMW M6 model that step up to the Competition Package will find a minimum of 15 ponies additional under the hood, bumping what the automaker is calling the "preliminary" output of its M-modified 4.8-liter TwinPower Turbo V8 from 560 to 575 horses. That extra muscle reportedly cuts acceleration times in the M6 Coupe/Gran Coupe by 0.1 second from 0-62 mph and by 0.2 tick in the 0-124 mph sprint, although no such claims are being made for its drop-top sibling.

To complement that modest but meaningful power play, the new Competition Package nets A comprehensive chassis makeover that starts with retuning its springs, shocks and anti-roll bars to add tautness and precision, while lowering the M6’s ride height by almost half an inch and lowering its center of gravity. Other key changes include revamped M-spec rack-and-pinion Servotronic power steering promising greater precision and enhanced cornering agility, modifications to the Active M Differential that improve traction, and a more accommodating electronic chassis control profile based around higher intervention thresholds for the M Dynamic Mode (MDM)/DSC (Dynamic Stability Control) elements. Sole visual changes to the Competition Package include unique 20-inch M light-alloy wheels and M-design quad outlets with Black Chrome finishers on the car’s throatier-sounding exhaust system.
The 2014 BMW M6 lineup arrives in dealers this August. While the M6 Coupe starts at $110,125, the M6 Gran Coupe opens at $113,925 and the M6 Convertible commences at $116,425, pricing on the Competition Package won’t be released until closer to the actual on-sale date.
