In addition to a formidable list of other standard features, the 4-cylinder version of the all-new 2013 Nissan Altima has just been certified by the EPA as being the most fuel-efficient gasoline-powered mid-size car sold in America. Backed by Nissan‘s latest Xtronic CVT automatic transmission, the 182-horsepower 2.5-liter engine in the new Altima 2.5, 2.5S, 2.5SV and 2.5SL earns a class-leading 27 mpg city, 38 mpg highway and 31 mpg combined marks. By comparison, the last Altima hybrid sedan — offered for the 2011 model year — carried 33/33/33 mpg EPA marks. With an 18-gallon fuel tank, the entire 4-cylinder-powered 2013 Altima Sedan lineup also can travel up to 684 miles on a single tank of fuel.
Nissan is already on record with an ambitious plan of attack for the fifth-generation of its perennial best-selling vehicle, including having this “class above” four-door finally surpass the Toyota Camry and Honda Accord to become the best-selling passenger car in America. Both the 2.5-liter four-cylinder and 3.5-liter V6 versions of the 2013 Nissan Altima go on sale later this month. Pricing for the former begins at $22,280 while the latter starts at $26,140.
