We offered a first look and key feature rundown on the new 2013 Honda Accord last month, and now the automaker has released a second, more comprehensive information download on its perennial best-selling line. In addition to a bounty of new images — including interiors — on all models in the Accord family, Honda has filled in a number of pertinent details on the fully redesigned Coupe and Sedan.
Trim designations for the 2013 Accord Sedan include LX, Sport, EX, leather-lined EX-L, EX-L V6 and a new top-line Touring. The 2013 Accord Coupe can be had in LX-S, EX, EX-L and EX-L V6. Although front hip room drops a fairly imperceptible 1.0 inch in both the variants most other key interior dimensions are increased, with the biggest gains being 1.3 inches of additional rear headroom in the Coupe and 1.3 more inches of rear legroom in the Sedan. Trunk space also grows by 1.8 and 1.1 cu ft, respectively.
Engine choices for the non-hybrid/PHEV members of the Accord lineup (those even-more-efficient variants won’t hit the showrooms until some point next year as 2014 models) include a new, 2.4-liter/4-cylinder and a modified version of the existing 3.5-liter V6, both carry Honda’s new "Earth Dreams" appellation. The inline-4 engine, which features Honda’ first use of direct fuel injection in North America, makes 185 horsepower (or 189 in Sport models) compared to 177/190 stats in 2012 while the V6 which benefits from revamped VTEC and VCM (Variable Cylinder Management) programming makes 278 horses – up from 271 in the past.
The base engine can be backed by a 6-speed manual transmission on certain models or an all-new CVT (Continuously Variable Transmission) automatic that employs Honda’s G-design Shift logic that improves responsiveness. While Accord V6 Coupes will be available with a 6-speed manual gearbox, all other 6-cylinder variants will be paired with a 6-speed automatic. Coupled with an Econ button and ECO Assist feature that’s standard on all models, these new powertrain matchups deliver the best-ever EPA numbers for a mid-size Accord, with the 4-cylinder best earning a 36 mpg highway rating and the V6 getting up to 34 mpg out on the open road.
As expected, technology plays a key role in defining the new 2013 Accord lineup. Standard features on all models include Bluetooth HandsFreeLink, USB/iPod integration, more passenger-friendly SmartVent front-side airbags, an intelligent-Multi Information Display (i-MID) with an 8.0-inch screen, rearview camera and Honda’s Expanded View Driver’s Mirror. Depending on trim grade, other features the new cloud-based HondaLink connected-car system, Honda LaneWatch Blind Spot Display, Smart Entry/Push Button Start, Forward Collision Warning, Lane Departure Warning and Adaptive Cruise Control.
The 2013 Honda Accord Coupe and Sedan are set to arrive in showrooms later this fall. Pricing will be announced closer to their actually on-sale date.
