2013 Hennessey Venom GT sets new Guinness 0-300 km/h speed mark

Earlier this month, a Hennessey Venom GT streaked into the Guinness Book by becoming the world’s quickest-accelerating car from 0-300 kilometers per hour (186 mph). Based on a radically modified Lotus Exige chassis fitted with a similarly enhanced twin-turbo 7.0-liter Corvette ZR1 V8 tuned to make 1,244 horsepower and 1,155 lb-ft of peak torque, the 2,743 lb Venom GT successfully completed its two-way timed runs in an average 13.63 seconds. Validated by a VBox 3i GPS data-logging system and witnessed by a Guinness representative at the Ellington Airport venue in Houston, Texas, Hennessey’s hottest-ever supercar eclipsed the previous 0-300 km/h benchmark of 14.53 seconds set by another ultra-exotic, the Koenigsegg Agera R.

While Guinness only recognizes records in this arena established in kilometers, Hennessey Performance Engineering CEO Don Goldman also noted that the Venom GT set a new albeit unofficial 0-200 mph time of 14.51 seconds, again bettering the Agera R’s performance, this time by 3.17 ticks. Other times of note included a 3.05 second 0-60 mph romp, a quarter mile pass in 10.29 seconds/158.83 mph and a standing half mile at 205.65 mph. Hennessey Performance plans to build just 29 Venom GTs. Each will have a base price of $1.2 million plus shipping and take six months to complete.
