We’ve already provided a comprehensive inside look at two of the most eagerly anticipated Mustangs in history, now Ford has completed the picture by announcing pricing for this dynamic duo. The 2013 Ford Shelby GT500 Coupe is set to open at $54,995 when it goes on sale in May – a figure that also happens to be identical to that of its prime rival, the new 2012 Chevrolet Camaro ZL1. On the open-air side of the equation, the 2013 Ford Shelby GT500 Convertible will command $59,995 when it hits the showrooms later this summer. Both Mustang models reflect a $5,390 price bump from their 2011 counterparts, but both cars also have been treated to a serious load of improvements aimed at delivering even more scintillating performance.
The biggest game changer for these new GT500s is found underhood, where motive might of their SVT-massaged 5.8-liter supercharged V8 has been elevated from 550 to 650 horsepower and peak torque raised from 510 to 600 lb ft. That enhancement – which surpasses the Camaro ZL1’s vital stats by 70 and 44 output units, respectively — promises to push top speed of the hard-topped Shelby beyond the 200 mph mark. While Ford has electronically limited the GT500 Convertible‘s terminal velocity to 155 mph, it too should have no problem producing major adrenalin rushes on demand.
