105,000 Fords, Lincolns Recalled Over Seat Belt Issue

2020 Ford Expedition

Ford and its Lincoln luxury division have recalled 105,322 SUVs over seat belts that may not retract or extend.

Recalled models include some, but not all, examples of the:

Almost all modern seat belts include a device called a pretensioner that applies tension during a collision to help the seat belt keep a passenger’s body stable. No law mandates pretensioners, but they’re almost ubiquitous now.

Ford tells the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration that some pretensioners used on these vehicles can “deploy inadvertently,” locking the belt so that it becomes useless.

Ford knows the production dates of the suspect parts, and its suppliers print a date code on each part. So dealers will inspect the vehicles, look for pretensioners from the dates in question, and replace them.
