Lucid Motors makes Lucid electric cars. Lucid began as Atieva in 2007, building electric vehicle batteries and powertrains. However, the company decided to make its own vehicles, rebranding itself as Lucid Motors in 2016.
Peter Rawlinson serves as Lucid’s chief executive and technology officer. He joined the company after leaving Tesla, Lucid’s biggest rival. At Tesla, Rawlinson served as vice president of engineering and chief engineer of the Tesla Model S.
Lucid designs its cars in Newark, California, and builds them in Casa Grande, Arizona. Its first vehicle, the Lucid Air sedan, debuted in 2022. Lucid Air gets an EPA estimated range of up to 516 miles, the highest of any electric vehicle (as of this writing).
