"I own this car now and it is awesome in the winter"

I went down to my father's house to shovel his driveway for him and most of the roads were completely covered. While shoveling his driveway I was entertained by all the people trying to make it up this steep hill across from where I was at. I seen a lot of front wheel drive cars that tried to get a running start but only end up about 15 ft up this hill. I saw even 4 wheel drive vehicles sliding and fish tailing up this hill. When I was done I thought to myself I'd like to see how my Escalade would fair. To say the least I was astonished. Not only did it make it up with ease I also came to a complete stop on the hill and accelerate again with no problems whatsoever. It may have something to do with the weight of the vehicle I don't know but it took that hill like a beast even with tires that are nearing the end of their life expectancy.

"Money Pit and cheaply made"

This was the car that my wife and I wanted for a long time but said not until we can afford it. Well, we bought an 06 in mint condition from the original owner. WORST MISTAKE EVER! This is still the best looking SUV on the exterior, but that is it. This is the last GM I will ever own. The interior is very cheaply made. plastic everything. the center console paint is chipping, the plastic wood grain is loose and the doors rattle. We have always taken it in to the shop for everything immediately and never abused the truck off road. other than exterior design, this thing is a pile of junk. Save yourself $20k and get a tahoe. Not to mention value. There is none. Our sticker price was $72k and 7 years later we are being told that it is worth $12-$14k on a trade in. I understand that all dealers low ball, but c/mon!! Just for fun, this is what I have repaired: air compressor for suspension (600) water pump(400) tailgate lock acuator(500) driver side lock switch(300) heated seat electronics(300) steering wheel radio control components(200) entire navigation system(1200) front differential(1500) front wheel barrings(400) Total: $4300!!

Nice Ride, Engine good, New Tires.

I used this vehicle to drive to work and as a family car. It has brand new tires and a lot of nice options. Engine is solid and runs good, drives nice and rides nice as this make is known for. Just one repairable according to my mechanic: The transfer case is going out that switches the 4-wheel drive. His estimate to repair it is $750.00. I have a second vehicle and will not repair this one. Just one other thing, one of the back windows will not roll up and down after my son tried to force it in the winter when it was frozen. The window is up tight, but it will not roll down. Other than that, and the higher milage, it is a good dependable car with life left in it. Color is exterior black, interior is tan.

Extremely well built suv
Pros

Ride quality. Low cost to maintain and repair

Cons

Gas mileage

I bought my '04 Escalade ESV platinum edition about a year ago and love it. It had 194,000 miles on it when I got it and now has 238k and runs like new. I've owned 3 different mercedes e class sedans, a mitsubishi eclipse, a top of the line toyota tacoma trd, a ford explorer, and a dodge ram pickup so have a basis for comparison. The escalade rides as smooth as a benz, but its an suv that's built like a tank. The interior quality is not as nice and durable as a benz, but is still fairly nice and not as "plasticky" as other reviewers criticize. The seats are extremely comfortable, on par with older mercedes sedans. And it has all the features you'd want, including most of the standard features you find on cars being produced today, except for blind spot monitoring, adaptive cruise control and power tailgate. I installed a double din kenwood with 7 inch touchscreen, built in gps, wireless apple carplay, and reverse and dash cams making it on par with todays new productions. The bose speakers sound excellent with my kenwood. I'm running it on michelin defenders and it handles amazing in the snow. For a big suv, it handles fairly well around corners. And the engine is powerful and the transmission runs smooth. I never feel any lack of power even on inclines. The brakes are very effective and quiet. But one of the best things about this truck is you can get a used one now for a fraction of the price of a new one- pennies on the dollar, and its so easy to work on and parts so cheap given its overlap with its chevy and gm counterparts. Other reviewers who claim this car is expensive to repair don't know what they are talking, or don't know how to deal with mechanics who probably overcharge them. At 200k miles you have to expect any car would need to be serviced. I redid the entire upper engine gaskets with fel-pro, o2 sensor with harness, water pump, alternator, one front wheel bearing, idler and pitman arms, tie rods, rear brake pads, tensioner pulley and belts, and a complete front diff rebuild, using all high end brands like ac delco pro line and moog, or advance autos premium line, and it cost me less than $1k for all the parts. And now, most of the serviceable parts on the car have been adressed and are now brand new, with lifetime warranties on both the water pump and alternator. A benz would have cost significantly more. As a hobby mechanic, i find working on the engine and other mechanical systems, significantly easier than the mercedes, chrysler, and ford vehicles I've owned based on the layout of the engine compartment and related mechanics. I've struggled far less on this escalade with rusty difficult bolts, and bolts breaking or stripping than with the Chrysler, ford, and even my tacoma which was also an excellent machine. It does guzzle gas, i get about 16mpg overall, but the ride quality and low cost of maintenance and repairs makes it worth it. I expect this truck to easily make it beyond 400k miles and will probably be the owner getting it there.

Fantastic vehicle

Always wanted an Escalade, even though this thing is high mileage (220,000) it is very comfortable and nice to drive. It has all the bells and whistles, and everything works just like it was new. If there was any negative thing to say would be the fuel mileage has been right around 17mpg. But it is a big heavy vehicle with the 6.0 engine. I love this vehicle!!!

Love it. Best truck for the money
Pros

Lots of power, good fuel economy, tows anything

Cons

It's harder to park then a compact car lol

Owned my 04 Escalade for about 20k miles now. The 6.0l is healthy and strong with 233k miles on it. Doesn't leak any fluids, axc blows cold and its very comfortable for the whole family. It towels great, replacement parts are cheap because gm is brilliant and shares the same platform with most their trucks and suvs. No majors issues. Only a few minor flaws, gauge cluster for the gas usually doesn't read right but you can tell how much gas you have by the range meter. Plus this thing is a tank and still gets decent fuel economy for what it is.

I quit settling for less
Pros

Quality, comfort, hauls lots of people and stuff,

Cons

Big parking place needed, gas mileage.

I purchased a 12 year old Escalade, Collectors edition with 115,000 miles. Its the best car I have ever owned, and I have owned at least 50 vehicles. Its hard to tell this is not a new vehicle, and it definately turns heads! The heated seats are awesome in the cold, its powerful, quiet, comfortable, has a lot of room, and everything just works as it should. My regret is not buying one earlier in life. Yes, it only gets about 16 mpg (20 on the hiway), but it will tow about 8000 pounds. Of course, due to its size, its not all that easy to park. Very good value in a used car.
