I have owned four 97-99 Devilles they are great cars as long as it gets maintained. Before purchasing a northstar cadillac make sure to be alert for white smoke, or coolant smell since northstar engines are notorious for blown head gaskets. Alternators are also one of the components that fail the most on 1997-1999 devilles make sure battery volts are at around 13.2- 13.9 when car is running other way alternator is soon to fail. a great way to see if the car is in good shape is by checking the codes. to do that simply press on the A/C controlls the "off" and "warmer" buttons for aprox 5 secs, it will tell you all the codes, problems that are "history" are not to worry, but if you get codes that are "current" you might want to see what they mean before you make a purchase.

This is a review from a mechanics perspective: I bought this car without doing research on the Northstar engines. After I hit 101k miles the engine literally lost both head gaskets. I decided that I was going to reseal the engine and put new bearings in it. After doing some research and talking to a local machine shop (who is hot tanking the block for me), I found this is the norm for these engines. I was also informed of head bolt hole issues and threads getting pulled out during removal. This may have been an alright car new, but stay away from it now as they are all used and well in the mileage range for failure. I paid high book for mine at 90k and now I'm going to be negative on this car when I put less than 2000 miles on it. Don't just take my word for it, Google Northstar problems and you will find other issues and warnings. Cost of repair with doing my own work: $720 parts + $100 machine shop block/head cleaning & inspection.

I have a 1995concour Cadillac 73000 miles good working condition look good on insides running colorgold
My 1996 Cadillac DeVille has 94000 maintenance free comfortable miles. I change the oil every 3000 to 4000 miles with 7.5 Qts Mobile 1 and flush the coolant , change transmission, brakes and power steering fluids every 30000 miles. I also, check the report areas of problems from other owners and have found every thing to be normal. Great car and I just gave3 it to my Grandson for his 16th birthday and passed along the proper care procedures. It is Shale with Brown Vinyl roof and Cadillac strip white walls. I told him if he ever puts black walls on it I will take it back.

Bought this Car in St.Louis, MO BRAND NEW. Has MOON ROOF SECURITY SYSTEM ALSO. Moved to FL. In 1999 August. Due to HEALTH CONDITION DROVE OCASSIONALY SINCE 2005. VERY STABLE ON ROAD & SNOW BECAUSE OF FWD AND SWITCHING TO STABILITY SWITCH.. NORTHSTAR ENGINE NOT MANUFACTURED ANYMORE.

I have had this car for a year now and had to replace some minor things fuel pump ,tuneup, flush the radiator basic stuff nothing major runs smooth and I just love her...I put over 10,000 miles on her since December 2019...no problems
