"Best Cadillac Ever"

My first was a 1982 Cimarron (ok to laugh) then a 2007 STS, a 2010 SRX, a 2013 XTS and traded a 2014 XTS for this gem. Car has styling, performance and handling. Most noticeable is the ride quality over the XTS which was not bad but the CT6 gets a 10 out of 10 for ride quality. It handles like a much smaller sports car yet it bathes you in luxury. My only complaint is the lack of storage compartments for the driver. The auto stop/start takes some getting use to but the on/off switch allows you to turn the system off if desired. I looked at the 750 BMW and a S550 Mercedes before choosing to stay with the Cadillac CT6. The lack of performance and handling with earlier big Caddy's drove me to BMW for a spell. Now that they have addressed that concern I see them luring away BMW and Mercedes customers due to the attractive price point of the CT6. Thanks GM for making Cadillac the "standard of the World Again"

Critical Review

"Worse new car that I have ever owned"

My CT6 is an embarrassment and has been an extremely unpleasant car to own for these reasons: 1. Vehicle failed on day of delivery requiring new rear wheel bearing and axle at 130 miles on odometer. 2. Transmission failed at 2,500 miles after all efforts to re-program shift adapts, re-learn procedures, etc. all failed. Car was gutted for a new transmission replacement, which lasted for approximately 1200 miles and is now lurching, flaring, and clunking. 3. Front fender was mis-aligned at the factory, requiring removal and repainting when the door gap caused the drivers door to crunch the sheet metal. 5. Goodyear tires that shipped with the car were found to be defective and out of round. This is a very attractive sedan with excellent styling, but its transmission is a major problem along with its build quality issues. Warranty coverage is excellent as the vehicle has spent many weeks within its first year back at the dealership. Worse new car that I have ever owned.

Slept on, Aging like wine, Future Classic!
Pros

6cyl turbo, AWD, Platinum and higher models

Cons

4cyl, 3.6, and lower trims

I would consider this cars success in North America largely a marketing failure. Most buyers were still hesitant to spend money on a Cadillac after the Northstar reliability scandal, and the declining quality the brand experienced in the early 2000's. What most people don't understand is that the CT6 was designed and engineered to be it's own vehicle. It's not a rebadge from another GM family member like we are used to seeing with the GMC Yukon/Chevrolet Tahoe/Cadillac Escalade, and it's not just parts from the GM parts bin. They really thought about making this vehicle and it shows! The twin turbo 6cyl models with AWD have plenty of power and handle incredibly well year round. Features like night vision, front and rear cameras make maneuverability a breeze. The Platinum trims are where most Cadillac or luxury buyers will feel at home. Excellent fit and finish and use of materials in the cabin. They could have done without the 3.6 and 4cyl here and the lower trims. The car is aging well, the tech and features feel comparable to what are available today even being almost ten years old.

Why did they stop!!!
Pros

Styling, Performance, Reliability, Quality, Value

Cons

transmission shutter

The styling is superb. The handling is amazing. The 3.0TT engine holds up against any luxury vehicle. The technology that this car has outperforms most 2024 model cars. My ONLY negative is the transmission has what cadi owners call a "shutter", when cold. The trans will hesitate, then engages. It only happens occasionally when it is cold. It is more annoying and embarrassing.

GREAT car for older driver; amazing technology!
Pros

More useful/safety technology than any other car!

Cons

So good I won't get a new car for a while!

1. The car has the following features: NiteVision (Infra-red), Heads-up-display, 4 wheel steering, magnetic ride control, AWD, and every safety feature you can imagine (including a direct-camera rear view mirror, all kinds of crash and pedestrian avoidance warnings and actions, birds-eye view and even a camera with a flash card so you can record what is going on around your vehicle ..possibly to use for proof that you did not do something improper??) 2.) The car looks great, is big, comfortable and shows high quality in workmanship. 3.) It has plenty of power (0-60 in <6 seconds) for safe entry/merge onto highways, passing etc. Definitely at the top of cars I have owned as a highway "star" (as good as my BMW 740 iL, etc.) 4.) My dealer picks the car up for service and drops off a loaner (no charge) and then brings the car back when service is complete. Eazy-peazy. NOW, the reason I mentioned "older driver" in the title is that the Heads-Up-Display, Infra-Red Night Vision (great for Seattle's hills and curves at night), tight turning radius and better curve-hugging from the 4-wheel steering, AWD for our wet/rainy roads, as well as all of the safety-net features help compensate for the slightest decline in reaction rates, less acute night vision etc. I was also fortunate to NOT get one of the CT6's (and I do know they exist as I have been a regular on the GM and Cadillac message boards) with a herky-jerky transmission. My hunch is that an issue as several have described like that would be infuriating. However, when I was looking for a new car to replace my trusty Bimmer, this was the ONLY car that had the combination of all of the features I noted in my first point. Normally I buy new cars every 3 years, but I do not see any car out there that I would consider an upgrade in any way, shape or form from what I already have, a pearl White CT6 (and it has built-in TV screens on the seat headrests so my grandkids can watch DVDs while we take trips!!) Can't get much better than that!

Second only to 2021 Escalade Platinum-super cruise
Pros

Fun to drive and ride. Passengers love it too!

Cons

Transmission sometimes is rough at slow start.

Love the car. Best sedan ever for me. Smooth ride, quiet, good mileage, and lots of leg room in front and back seats. Don't know why Cadillac dropped this premium car. My car is the Platinum version and has many amenities, including front and back message, rear seat adjustment, rear and front video, and blu-ray DVD player. Articulated turn is quite nice. Also, I like the adaptive cruise, although super cruise is vastly superior. The bird's eye and obstacle avoidance feature is most attractive in tight places or just backing up. Many other features makes this car a luxury in every sense of the word. Unfortunately, Cadillac does not have a comparable replacement sedan for this exceptional car.
