Positive Review
Why did they stop making this car? It's an awesome car. We have had 2 LeSabres...would buy another... !It's been reliable and dependable. We have only had to replace the brakes and tires and battery on this car and it's 11 years old!!Of course, we maintain it religiously. It's spacious interior with 6 passenger seating beats a minivan any day in our opinion . We have hauled grandkids all over Washington in this. The trunk is super huge...can fit the whole house in there. All I can say is Buick really goofed not keeping this car in production.
Critical Review
This vehicle is the worst car I have ever owned. Spent $3500 in repairs in 14 months and still needed $2000 more in repairs. Had the transmission repaired 3 times and two major engine repairs.

Cheap to buy, cheap to fix, cheap to fill up. Spacious trunk and seats.
No Bluetooth (it didn't exist at the time) or CD player. Kits exist aftermarket but they're expensive.
I bought my LeSabre at just below 98k miles around the time I lost my 2017 EV in a car accident (F U Progressive!) and it's one of the best cars I've ever driven. While I do miss charging at home for a fraction of the cost of gas, repairs compared to my last car are very cheap. Actually, for a car that's 24 years old it barely needed any work- brake repairs and new tires and that was it. It also has stellar gas milage. Around the late Naughties the SUV took over from the sedan as the most popular car, which in my opinion was a huge mistake on society's part! Why did we ever abandon these built to last, easy on gas commuters that won't burn your wallet? I've driven this old car from Wyoming to New Mexico and back on the highway, and used it for my pizza delivery job at Dominos driving up to 10 hours straight in the city! I still want to get an EV or a hybrid again some time in the future, but even then I'm keeping this old Buick. It's a car you could even hand down to teenagers when they start driving- the longevity and affordability is that good!
Engine, transmission
Rust, ceiling liner drooping
I've had this Buick for five years and it's been a good ole car. It's getting a tad rusty in spots and the ceiling liner is drooping. But the engine and transmission are great and it runs well.
Cabin and trunk space; cost on used market
Engine and transmission issues
This is the second GM car that I have bought used, and it seems to suffer from the same engine problem that my other GM car had: coolant leaks. I don't know whether it's due to the Dexcool coolant that GM put into its cars during the 2000s, or maybe due to the plastic engine manifolds or gaskets, but this is the second time in under two years that I've had problems with coolant leaking from the engine of my LeSabre. I don't know why this engine is listed as one of Ward's 10 Best Engines, honestly, when it doesn't seem any better than any other engine I've had in my cars. On top of that, lately the transmission has been giving me hard shifts in all gears. Check out 1A Auto's Top 5 problems with the 2000 - 2005 Buick LeSabre and you'll see that this car has a known problem with the shift solenoid. The interior has held up very well, with the exception of the ash tray and the center armrest in the front seat. The ash tray uses very small springs on either side which can easily come out and can be difficult to figure out how to put back, so my ash tray just hangs open all the time. Recently the lid on the front center armrest has started opening up randomly while driving. Also, another known issue on this car is with the gauges on the instrument cluster. The motors behind the gauges tend to fail, causing the fuel gauge to get stuck in one place or the temperature gauge or speedometer to not work. I had to buy a rebuilt instrument cluster for my car. The lights behind the gauges and controls can also fail over time, including those on the climate control. I removed my climate control unit and sent it out to a company for repair of the lighting on it. The ride on this car is soft, unless you get the Grand Touring package which gives you a firmer suspension. The rear uses air springs, which can be expensive to replace (especially if using OEM replacements). The car is fairly roomy inside, and can seat up to six people if you put up the front armrest. My main reason for buying this car is that you can buy one with less mileage than an Accord or Camry for less money, but I think this will be the last GM product I buy.
Best car I ever owned 92 yrs old
non
low mileage, leather seats no rust never been driven in winter, bought it in Florida and moved north to Wisconsin and been inheated garage ever since, drove 2nd car in winter up here. No Dents power seat.
Ours came to us from my husband's parents. It had 27,000 miles on it when we received it. Now it's got over 180,000 miles and is still running beautifully. Super smooth ride, plenty of acceleration when you need it, great handling. Don't let the exterior fool you--this is not just an "old folks driving around town" car--it is a total ROAD WARRIOR! We have taken it on so many trips, and it routinely gets around 32 mpg even with the AC on, and that's even now, with over 180K miles on it. This is the best car I have ever owned, and it will be a sad day when it finally gives up, whenever that may be. I suspect the body will rust out before the engine is done. BTW, this engine is supposed to be one of the best that GM ever built, and I believe it. I'm so glad that my husband and I have been able to give it a life as a real car, not just a garage dweller. If you have a chance to get ahold of one, do it!
Not good for sleeping, do not recommend ..... I know it's for driving so it's good for that but sleeping no.
