What Owners are Saying About the 2004 BMW Z4
"Quick on freeway high speed, not everyday car"
"Car is fairly fast. You won’t win real drag races, but on freeway, it owns the speed circuit. Car roars and born to run. The inline 6 engine is the best in the business. In excess speed car feel well controlled. True BMW sport car. But also true sport car you won’t want to drive every day. Car is stiff, and you will feel all the roads imperfections, and be careful with pot holes that might damage your light fragile wheels and expensive low profile tires. Not a car you want to drive in poorly maintained roads."
"Great Car"
"This is by far the best sports car I have ever owned. Its styling is different, and there are not very many out there, but that is what I want. Before I bought this car, I spent four days working in Fort Smith, Arkansas. In that time I counted ten Porsche Boxsters, and close to that many 911s, but not even one regular Z4 let alone an M model. I like to drive something that you don't see on every corner. It feels like an above average vehicle in normal mode; and it is, you could drive it everyday in traffic and it would be fine. But, get it out of town, push the sport button, and a whole new world opens up. This thing wants to play! It can do anything you can do, with the emphasis on you. It really requires good driving skills to get the best out of it, but if you have them, or take the time to acquire them, the car will reward you with performance that belies its age. On a twisty mountain road with the top down and the exhaust burbling behind, you really feel alive, and so does the car. the seats are firm, but you appreciate them because sitting up snugly against the back, you are fully supported and can feel exactly how the car is reacting to the road. The gearbox takes some getting accustomed to; first to second is notchy, but after a short while, you'll get the hang of it. The car really comes alive about 3500 rpm and feels like it will never stop accelerating, but it will because the brakes can handle the job. There isn't much room for storage in the cockpit, nor the trunk, but I didn't buy it to haul more than a couple of overnight bags. Wind noise is not bad and the stereo is actually very good; I just don't usually turn it on. I would rather listen to the exhaust, and you will too. The gas mileage can be very good on an interstate; I have managed 30 mpg driving carefully, but 21 to maybe, 24 is a more reasonable expectation. It is just too much fun to rev that engine and pass people! If you can get your hands on a low mileage example, do it. This is what it would have been like to own an old time 1960's era roadster that could be relied upon to keep going without carrying a mechanic in the passenger seat."
"Top-quality roadster"
"If you like the styling and the firm ride, this is a top-quality roadster that holds its own anywhere. About 23 MPG from the beefy engine, great handling, good trunk space--a highly civilized sports car."
