Positive Review
I've owned this 2006 M5 since new. I love everything about it except the 11 mpg around town and 15 mpg highway. It uses a quart of oil every 1200 miles and now the Castrol TWS oil is no longer available. I've had issues with a differential leak, VANOS noise, and a new SMSG replaced under warranty at 22,000 miles. I bought this car when I was in the Air Force in Germany and at 190 mph on the Autobahn it is rock solid. Love this car, they scratched the paint when they shipped it back to the US. I got a repaint on the roof. I plan on holding this car forever. It is a luxury hot rod and the sound of the V10 is amazing.
Critical Review
I have had my 2008 BEAST for two years and was loving every second of it. However, over the past three months its been in the shop for some crazy expensive VANOS issues. After some really hard consideration I've decided to trade her in for either the 550GT or x6. Giving a low overall rating, due to the VANOS ($2,800 ea)issues and the costly parts to put her back together. PLEASE, GET AN EXTENDED WARRENTY!!!!

Comfortable, fast, and cheap, since it’s overrated
As in the rest of the review.
Expect failures, luckily, when I bought it, all its issues were sorted. The infotainment system is hard to use, though, even for a techie.
Everything
Not owning one
Drive one in M end of story. Rest will speak for itself its a never sell. Reliability depends on your maintenance schedule factory gives you the bare minimum. Truly a masterpiece with exceptional price that I’m sure will change with time and it will cost you more than MSRP one day.
Powerful, S85 V10, comfortable, very affordable
Reliability
Let me start off by saying you get what you pay for when buying this car. The original MSRP for a E60 M5 was somewhere in the ballpark of $80-100k. Today you can pick one up for $15k, maybe even less. The reasoning behind this drastic depreciation is because of one thing, or rather hundreds of things that could go wrong with this car. Rod bearings, vanos pump, gearbox failure, and even the engine just exploding out of no where. This car is known to have extraordinary issues with reliability, but it’s worth it. The E60 M5 is a supercar in sedan form. Whether it be the screaming V10, or the 507 horsepower, or even the torque which is surprisingly head jerking. There will never be another sedan quite like this one, and I’d definitely recommend buying one before they inevitably appreciate as most “M” cars do.

Car drives mazing, feels like nothing else. V10 BEST ENGINE EVER. the last 4 door supper car made
Power, comfort, handling
Expensive maintenance!
This is the most incredible car I have ever owned. It has performance, comfort, and its beautiful. The fit and finish are superb. I love the V10 so much, I also have a 2010 BMW M6. But I still like the M5 best. I have 138,500 miles, and Im looking for another with low mileage.
