Positive Review
Bought this 98 M3 in early 2001 with 11K miles. Now has 115K. Has been great both on the street and the track (HPDE events). I have done suspension upgrades with Bilstein shocks, H&R springs and sway bars (at 60K miles). Has been reliable with minor repairs along the way(you do need to do regular maintenance). I have driven new cars, including the newer M3s, but this car has handling and road feel that cannot be beat. I use this car as my daily driver. I will keep this car until it dies (or I do!). If you can find one in good condition...get it!

Everything there is to love about driving
Raw car, not for road trips
It’s nimble it’s aggressive, handles like a race car drivers dream. Easy to wrench on, lots of interchangeable parts between models. My m3 sedan looks better than most cars today. Paint is excellent, seats have held up pretty good. Best part is this car can still take most sports cars out there today. The inline six is the best engine bmw ever made.
Bombproof 6. 50/50 distribution
Change water pump every 50g
One of the bestest and funnest and sexiest cars you can track and drive on the street. Especially for the low money to buy one
Very fun, fast car but its more of a toy then a car if you know what i mean
Driving and handling. M's are simply awesome.
Convertible top starts breaking down at early age
I bought my '99 Convertible M3 used at 50K miles. Once I drove it, I just new it was the car for me. What a kick the engine has and the handling - simply the best. The only reason I don't give it all 10's is the convertible top. They just don't hold up. Of course that is a common issue on many convertibles, but seems like the E36 series were especially prone to problems at an early age with the top and mine has suffered that fate as well. Otherwise, I absolutely love my M and hope to always have an M in the carport. I'm not experienced with the new generation "manual automatics" but I can tell you, if you're considering an M in this older generation, it's just got to be a manual to get the full fun out of it, so get a buddy to teach you to drive a stick if you're considering one and don't already know how. Will be totally worth it.
fun to drive, all original
The best car that I have driven! Fun to drive and a bit too fast for me now!!
Superb condition, find a race track to test drive!
Fine, too, for family of 4-5, but not "cushy"
This is a California car, bought new in 1995 by a dentist who owned it for 3 years, drove it 4 mis to/from work, and chose to sell it because of his growing family. He kept it in perfect condition, and so have I since I bought it from him in 1998. No accident history, good maintenance records. It's in excellent condition inside and out: original white paint, black leather interior, sliding roof, new tires (plus a set of high performance racing tires which I quickly discovered were unfit for driving in Wisconsin winters!). Mileage 79,000. Asking $7150 obo.
the exhaust in a tunnel, amazing car
gas mileage when u go in a tunnel
best car I've owned so far. It handles like a charm. BMW will never make a car like this. Even though euro spec had a different engine these cars 0-60 are almost identical. Why you might ask, because the US spec version was lighter because of the engine and the differential.I'm 16 and I see how other teens drive. Do not give this to your child for a first car.Its a sports car so the insurance is high. They will think because its ///M they can do what ever they want. Over all great car, worth the money if you find one under 8k.
Fun to drive. Makes the driver and car become one.
small trunk space
I have owned a BMW M3 convertible for several years. It has been very reliable and fun to drive.
