The 2025 BMW iX is a luxurious, comfortable all-electric SUV with lots of standard and available features and impressive performance. Pricing starts at $88,425.
If you’d love to drive a luxury midsize SUV but you just can’t stand to burn that much gasoline, the BMW iX is your X5 alternative. It’s all-electric, with standard all-wheel drive (AWD), and it’s bursting with standard and available tech and safety equipment.
Although there are a few longer-range EVs on the road now, the iX’s range and charging times are still near the front of the pack, especially in the luxury realm. The long range and quick charging complement the iX’s daily driver comfort and practicality, making this a smart choice as well as a fun one.
We’ve spent hundreds of hours driving the current crop of luxury electric SUVs including the BMW iX.
The Interior Design Package with M Dark Silver interior trim and M steering wheel is now standard on the iX M60, and also now optional on the iX xDrive50. The optional Driving Assistance Professional pack also now includes Active Lane Change with eye activation.
The 2025 BMW iX has a starting sticker price of $88,425, with the range-topping iX M60 kicking off at $112,675. But Kelley Blue Book Fair Purchase Pricing currently suggests paying $8,374 to $11,076 less than MSRP, depending on trim and equipment. These prices are updated weekly.

The luxury electric SUV segment is seeing a lot of experimentation, as it’s still relatively new. Accordingly, prices, features, and performance can vary widely. Some of the iX’s closest competitors are the Audi Q8 e-tron and Mercedes-Benz EQE SUV, both of which start in the $70,000s, well below the BMW, as well as the Rivian R1S, which begins in the upper-$70,000s. The Tesla Model X starts at around $80,000, and the Cadillac Lyriq undercuts them all, starting right around $60,000. The new Polestar 3 is also worth considering, with 315 miles of range and a starting price in the mid-$70,000s.
Before buying a new BMW iX, check the Kelley Blue Book Fair Purchase Price to know what others like you are paying. The iX doesn’t retain its value quite as well as the competitors listed here. Recouping more money when you sell or trade in a vehicle means more money to put down and lower monthly payments on the next one.
Thanks to its dual motors, the BMW iX has standard all-wheel drive. However, in keeping with BMW’s fondness for dynamic balance, the rear motor does the lion’s share of the work in normal conditions. Torque moves forward when necessary, giving the iX a stable and planted feel despite a suspension tune that clearly errs on the compliant side, especially in iX xDrive50 form. The iX M60 has a standard air suspension, which delivers the smoothness you need but also the performance you want.
The iX allows one-pedal driving and offers three levels of brake energy regeneration. The lightest setting lets the brakes behave much like those in a conventional vehicle, and the most aggressive regeneration mode means you rarely have to use the brake pedal directly in normal driving.
The BMW iX is good for up to 309 miles of range, per EPA figures, in xDrive50 form. The iX M60 rates up to 285 miles of range. Those are good numbers for the segment and overall. The Q8 e-tron, for instance, gets up to 285 miles of range, while the EQE SUV is good for 279 miles. The Model X can go up to 333 miles, and the Cadillac Lyriq has up to 326 miles of range. The Rivian R1S can go up to 410 miles on a charge.
Fast charging lets the iX go from 10% to 80% charge in just 35 minutes, on par for the segment. A full charge on a standard home charging setup will take about 10.25 hours.
In its base form, the iX xDrive50 can sprint from zero to 60 mph in just 4.4 seconds, a very quick time for a midsize SUV. The M60 is even quicker at 3.6 seconds. These numbers outclass the Q8 e-tron and all but the top-spec EQE SUV, but the Tesla Model X and Rivian R1S are just about as quick.
A high-tech and luxurious atmosphere awaits inside the iX, made all the more luxurious by the fact that you won’t have to dig around in your purse or pockets for the key. The vehicle will already recognize your approach through your smartphone.
Once inside, the recycled materials look and feel as premium as any others. There’s a 12.3-inch driver information display mounted into a curved unit along with a 14.9-inch center touchscreen display. A hexagonal steering wheel adds to the futuristic flavor.
Rear-seat legroom is good at 38.9 inches, a bit less than the EQE SUV’s 40.9 inches, but on par with the Q8 e-tron and Model X. One of the iX’s strengths is its roomy cargo area, with 35.5 cubic feet behind the 40/20/40-split folding rear seats, and 77.9 cubic feet with the rear seats folded down. That’s substantially more space behind the rear seats than the rest of the segment and nearly double that of the Rivian R1S and Mercedes-Benz EQE SUV.
Unlike many EVs, the iX doesn’t have a storage area (“frunk”) under the hood.
From a distance, the iX is sized similarly to the X5 midsize SUV, with similar proportions. Up close, however, the iX’s more unusual aspects become more obvious. The iX lacks, for example, a grille, having instead an “Intelligence Panel” with sensors for the advanced driver-assist and safety systems onboard.
Door handles are flush to the body for better aerodynamics—another strong point for the iX, which clocks a drag coefficient of 0.25 and is also low on wind noise. The BMW badge at the rear hides the rearview camera.
If you choose the iX M60, the carbon-fiber-reinforced plastic (CFRP) isn’t obvious, but it shaves some weight and lowers the center of gravity a bit. The M60’s brake calipers are also painted M blue as a subtle nod to those in the know.
Infotainment system
BMW’s iDrive infotainment system has improved by leaps and bounds over its eight generations, and the current iteration is a wonderfully user-friendly system. In the iX, it includes a curved 14.9-inch touchscreen, over-the-air (OTA) updates, dedicated user profiles, and advanced voice recognition.
Rapid charging
While the iX’s 10-80% 35-minute charge time is pretty typical for luxury SUVs, it also has the ability to add up to 90 miles of range in 10 minutes on DC fast charging.
Head-up display with augmented reality
The iX M60 gets a head-up display (HUD) as standard equipment (it’s available in the xDrive50), which uses augmented reality to superimpose navigation directions and other information to make getting around easier and safer.
Adaptive LED headlights with Laserlight
These headlights, standard on the M60, follow the direction of the steering to illuminate the way forward. The included laser tech is even more efficient and brighter than typical LED lighting.
Bowers & Wilkins surround-sound system
Exclusive to the M60, this 30-speaker/1,615-watt arrangement is an absolute treat for the ears.
Sustainability
The iX is built with responsibly sourced rare elements like cobalt and lithium and recycled materials in the cabin. BMW even uses solar and hydro-electric power to build the vehicle.
The base iX xDrive50 has dual electric motors and a-wheel drive, with 516 horsepower and 564 lb-ft of torque. BMW engineered these motors not to need rare earth metals for the magnetic components, improving their sustainability.
The iX M60 performance model gets dual motors and a-wheel drive, but with 610 hp and 811 lb-ft of torque for even more impressive acceleration. Those peak figures are only available in Sport mode with launch control engaged, but the rest of the time, the M60 is still rolling around with 532 hp and 749 lb-ft on tap.
4-Year/50,000-Mile Warranty
BMW provides a new-vehicle warranty of four years or 50,000 miles, whichever comes first. The iX’s high-voltage battery and other EV components are covered for eight years or 100,000 miles, which is typical coverage for the luxury sector.
Safety
The 2025 BMW iX hasn’t been rated by either the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) or the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS). The iX does come with a long list of standard safety features, however, including active blind spot detection, lane departure warning, frontal collision warning, acoustic pedestrian detection and much more.

They’re also substantially different in terms of style, capability, features, and even price.
