Positive Review
The BMW 530e is one of the most efficient, enjoyable, versatile and practical cars on the road today. Great quality, great performance, amazing mileage, wonderful safety features at a reasonable price point.
Critical Review
Water leaks, rear window wiper failure, engine overheating, AC problems, steering wheel noises! All of these are frequently experienced on all BMW 5-Series models! They ARE stylish which tricks you into buying them, but just are not reliable WHATSOEVER! Not worth the wad of $$$$$. All model years are bad although some have tendencies to be a bit better.

You'll be surprised by this one. Massive torque, quiet, handling and ride comfort on the highway. The miles just fly by. An amazing combination. Checks all the boxes for me after 11 other BMW's. Good luck finding one. Seems that only around 300 were sent from Germany. If you find one jump on it.
BMW When using Car Play with any recent BMW models, i.e. 2022 M550i, Car Play fails and it drops the device from Bluetooth, and in some cases, you will have to shutdown/restart the car to bring the device back online. So… When on a two-way call in Car Play and you add a third person and conference this person into the call, the call continues to work perfectly fine. However, if someone else tries to call you, the call doesn’t make it through and from the caller’s perspective, it appears you are sent straight to voicemail and/or the call is rejected. It immediately shows on the car’s display screen that a call is missed. This goes on probably 2-3-4 more times until that person just thinks they’re being completely ignored. Trust me, my wife doesn’t like it. While still on that same conference call in Car Play mode, I then attempt to call that person back and my device is dropped from Car Play all together; forcing me now to continue that call in handheld mode. I also had that same person call me back while on that same conference call and the call went through when not connected to BMW Car Play. This is no good in many states where handsfree is required and the law. I noticed this 2-3 weeks after purchasing my beautiful 2022 M550i and brought it to the attention of the dealership, and I was ridiculed and told I was doing something wrong. I then tried the same in a Prius and it worked fine. I also tried a Ford Explorer, Jaguar F-Pace, Mercedes S-500, and a Lexus. No issues at all. I then called BMW and got into it with their customer advocacy team and was told there were no issues. I finally went back to the same dealership and we tried 2 more brand new BMWs from the show floor. We tried an M-5 and an X-3. They all showed the same problem. I finally received a text message from my Sales Person telling me that the issue was known within BMW and that they were not going to do anything about it because no one else is complaining. My real reason for wanting this to work is because I wanted a semi high performance vehicle that looked good and was powerful on the road. I’m also in high-end technical sales and with being more and more remote in the post-pandemic era, customers want to be more virtual than ever. The fact that BMW acknowledges the problem and doesn’t care to fix it is embarrassing when compared to a 20k used Toyota Prius where Car Play works perfectly fine and with no issues. The issue was so prevalent that I hardly drove the car (12k miles in less than 19 months) and just this past week I sold it back to the dealership. The car is truly an awesome and fun car to drive, but for a 90k+ vehicle all in, I expected it to perform better. The car was my office on the road and it was a disappointment. Shame on you BMW! If a Prius can do it, so can you. The issue is software related and it can be fixed. Your total lack of customer service and complacent ways in that your cars are great, which they are, and not wanting to fix is a shame. With current high inflation and a slower economy, all consumers should be aware of what they will encounter when buying a new BMW.
You can hyper mile or drive hard. It does both!
Battery warranty ends at 80000 miles
This car will absolutely blow you away. I average 35-38 in the city and 42-47 on the highway. My 1st 14 miles are all electric and it’s no big deal plugging in when at home. I had a turbo six 5 series before and this turbo 4 with electric assist feels faster off the line and punchier when passing. The only downside is the battery warranty goes to 80000 miles. I use 3 different bmw dealerships for service as I manage rentals in 4 counties. Every service manager has said they have yet to replace a battery in a hybrid. I have 67000 miles on my 5 and my battery still has same electric range. My understanding is if you use the “fast” chargers, you shorten the battery life. I have only used the wall plug in cord that comes with the vehicle. Battery still performs as new. As I approach the 80000 mark, I’ll sell/trade and get another low mile 2018 to alleviate my battery range worry. (New battery is $20000). For gas mileage, performance and luxury…this is the best $ spent. KBB confirms these hybrids hold their value with gas pricing heading north. If you hunt for these hybrids…make sure you get the lighting package and x drive. Blows my friends/clients away. Good luck. W
Best car ever. 35 mpg/city. 47mpg hwy. Hwy is probably better as I travel 4 counties and set cruise on 82 mph always. All wheel drive is very sure footed and I can’t chirp the tires no matter how hard I try. Your 1st 14 miles are all electric and really add value with gas around 5.00/gallon. Hoping for M 530 e in the future.
Can't think of any
Never a problem... Just do yearly maintenance and that's it. Nothing ever seems to go wrong. Fun to drive and has power to spare. I've owned BMW's for years and this is the best one ever.
Had my car for almost a year great car no Complaints…Very good on gas, gets a lot of comments on how it looks
I owned x1 and x3 before and thought the transition from suv to sedan would be hard. But I was wrong. The agility in handling, the whisper quiet and comfortable ride, the lovely interior and exterior, and the advanced tech make this car a commute darling. This is also my first phev. I’m enjoying the hybrid and ev modes on a daily basis.
