Positive Review
I drive a LOT - my commute is nearly 1000 miles a WEEK. Gets very decent highway mileage (28.3 average) for a car of it's size and weight. Handles well (except for in heavy snow), great sound system. Nav system is a little archaic, but technology changes so quickly. Reliability is key for me, and this car has been great! One water pump, one radiator. Other than that, brake shoes, oil changes, and that's it! Electric trunk release went at 150k, but hey, it's minor. I LOVE THIS CAR! I had a 1994 525i that I got rid of at 340,000 miles...and I still see it on the road. This is a quality designed and built car.
Critical Review
Love my 99, 540i, however; it's been tough love- When she runs she runs great, excellent acceleration, comfort, low noise, and a solid safe feel. Won't lie to you the car maintenance isn't cheap- Have had some blow ups with the car regarding water pump- Highly recommend you check the radiator after 100k on this vehicle- Make sure you replace the water pump if not the whole entire cooling system. Like anything if you keep up with the maintenance the car won't let you down- Just learn to change your oil if you don't have deep pockets, it's very simple and if you're handy buy the 5-series manual for simple repairs- The dealer will take advantage of you, but who doesn't know that already- Enjoy :-)

2002 Seafoam Green BMW 525i that looks in good condition inside and out. One small dimple on the rear passenger door. Pristine interior, light tan leather interior. Serviced regularly, mechanic available to verify his work. Great and safe car for a teen or wife to drive. 5 speed automatic or slip over and drive as a manual transmission. Roomy trunk with access panel in the middle of the back seat for those skiing enthusiasts who need extra length inside the car for transporting skis or over length objects.
One of bmw’s best a classic, could drive it to the
Original owner, no accidents, garage kept Recently spent $9,000 new tires, new suspension, new bmw valve covers , gaskets Original paint, black beautiful condition Everything works , interior is perfect Just passed inspection and much more. Selling to downsize to one car.
Don't know much about the car but it's quality through and through so far. Drives like a dream. I've had other brands of luxury sport cars. The driving experience definitely lives up to the ads. As promised.
Fun to drive, luxurious, smooth, overall reliable
upholstery can peel, cupholders are nonexistent
The car has smooth, linear power from the three-liter that is capable of getting 30 miles to the gallon on the highway and is also sportier than the power to weight would make it seem. The automatic transmission for 2002 is fine and the Steptronic shift mode is also a joy in tighter backroads. Reliability can be argued for being good or bad but you're buying a 20-year-old car that was about $40,000 new. If you buy one of them for under $6,000 and put some money into it you'll have the ultimate daily with the peak generation of BMW reliability. The independent suspension making minimizes bumps on the road and helps maintain traction even at a high rate of speed. This car is built to cruise at whatever speed the driver wants. I personally found that I get my best gas mileage near 80-85mph and at almost 40mpg with my toe on the throttle. If you find this car for $3,000 and want to have one of the best cars BMW has ever made it could be yours with a couple of preventative trips to the mechanic. rubber and plastic do tend to wear away at this age and that has been one of the biggest pains. Once you make sure coolant, oil, and window regulators work(expensive about $300-$500) and gaskets aren't leaking you will find the overall reliability is great especially compared to the more popular 335i of more recent times.

Perfect example of what a proper sport sedan should be. M-tech II option gives you a 540i on steroids with M5 curb appeal. You can't go wrong.
Super fun to drive! Maintenance is pretty low.
Can't think of a thing.
The BMW 525i corners in S-Turns and in hills like it is glued to the road. Plenty of G-Force for your rally experience. Looks very classy and sporty! Very rad car!
