The first mass-market hybrid vehicle sold in North America was a tiny 2-seater. Luckily for families who crave good fuel economy, times have changed. As hybrids keep getting more popular, the list of options for SUVs and minivans with 3-row seating and hybrid efficiency keeps growing. They’re even getting better at more rugged challenges like towing and off-roading.
This list only includes conventional and mild hybrids. Plug-in hybrids, which can run on gas or electricity alone, are a separate category. Also, all pricing figures below include the mandatory destination charge.
Here are the best 7-seat hybrids ranked by the highest maximum driving range on a full gas tank. We’ve also included the EPA-estimated annual cost, based on driving 15,000 miles a year, 45% on the highway and 55% in the city, and gas price projections done by the U.S. Energy Information Administration for the current model year. Editor’s tip: While the range for all of the vehicles on this list is impressive, if you and your family want to buy a hybrid to save money, look at the annual fuel cost.

This was one of the original hybrid SUVs and is still one of our favorites; it earns a spot on our Best Family Cars list. It’s still a midsize 3-row SUV, but the third row is a little cramped by comparison. It also comes with Toyota’s legendary reliability and resale value, plus hybrid efficiency. 4. 2025 Mercedes-Benz GLE

A third row is optional in the GLE, boosting its max seating capacity to seven. Those extra seats are better for occasional use than daily use, but they add to the versatility of one of our favorite luxury SUVs. See 2025 Mercedes-Benz GLE models for sale near you
5. 2025 Mercedes-Benz GLS

6. 2024 Toyota Sequoia

8. 2025 Mazda CX-90
Maximum Range: 462 miles
Fuel Economy: 25 mpg combined
Annual Fuel Cost: $2,050 (estimated)
Price: $39,300
The 2025 Mazda CX-90 is available as a plug-in hybrid, but the base powertrain is a mild hybrid that gives it a little extra boost to performance and efficiency. In addition to the efficiency, we’re impressed with the quality of the materials and the overall build quality, which makes this Mazda feel more expensive. With a starting price under $40,000 and combined fuel economy in the mid-20s, this upscale 3-row SUV is a strong value play. See 2025 Mazda CX-90 models for sale near you
9. 2025 Volvo XC90
Maximum Range: 489 miles

Much like the Mazda CX-90, the similarly named 2025 Volvo XC90 has a standard mild hybrid engine and an optional plug-in hybrid powertrain. Its specs are similar to those of the Mazda, but it’s pricier because it’s a more premium luxury SUV. It’s also one of the roomier midsize 3-row luxury SUVs in its class, enhancing its practicality. 10. 2025 Mercedes-Benz GLB
Maximum Range: 445 miles
Fuel Economy: 28 mpg combined
Annual Fuel Cost: $2,300 (estimated)
Price: $47,800 (with third-row option)
A mild hybrid powertrain is standard, and a third row is optional in the 2025 Mercedes-Benz GLB. We won’t sugarcoat it; that optional third row is tight and compromises cargo space, but it’s nice to have if you occasionally need extra seating. This luxury SUV’s small footprint makes it fun to drive and easy to park. See 2025 Mercedes-Benz GLB models for sale near you
Honorable Mention:
2025 Kia Sorento Hybrid

The 2025 Kia Sorento Hybrid is a hybrid SUV with 3-row seating, but it’s relegated to honorable mention on this list because it only seats six. However, that’s not such a bad thing because it means second-row captain’s chairs come standard. If you can settle for six seats instead of seven, the Sorento is on our Best Family Cars list because it’s an excellent, high-tech SUV with attractive pricing and efficiency. Coming Soon:
2025 Kia Carnival Hybrid
Maximum Range: 620 miles
Fuel Economy: 33 mpg combined

Hybrid or not, some of our favorite things about the 2025 Kia Carnival are its class-leading cargo space, available VIP lounge seating, and user-friendly technology.
