Electric cars, trucks, and SUVs are undeniably the future of the automobile, or at least that seems certain from the industry’s current vantage point. Accordingly, every brand is rapidly rolling out its next generation of all-electric vehicles (EVs) to meet the rising demand. No matter what type of vehicle you’re shopping for — big, small, inexpensive, or luxurious — your next one might be electric.
While there are plenty of all-new EVs currently on sale for 2023, many more are arriving this year. Here are the mass-market electric cars due to arrive in 2023, excluding limited-production models and supercars.
2024 Audi Q8 e-tron
The 2024 Audi Q8 e-tron, the slightly updated evolution of the former Audi e-tron, promises an impressive range (up to 314 miles) through higher-capacity batteries. It will also offer more powerful charging. With a quality cabin and sleek design, the Q8 e-tron is every inch a modern Audi. In addition, it comes with standard 2-motor all-wheel drive (AWD). A higher-performance SQ8 e-tron is also expected. The Q8 e-tron arrives this April, starting from about $75,000.
2023 BMW i5
BMW’s electric vehicle offerings include the i4, i7, and iX — and, possibly by mid-2023, the i5. The 2023 BMW i5 hasn’t been formally confirmed, but it’s expected to be the all-electric, futuristic counterpart to its combustion alternative, the 5 Series. That means a large sedan footprint, plenty of interior space, and comfort and handling that strike a balance between executive cruiser and sport sedan. Look for the 2023 BMW i5 to debut this summer.
2024 Chevrolet Blazer EV
The 2024 Chevrolet Blazer EV will come in many variants, eventually, but it will launch in Blazer SS form in fall of 2023. The Blazer SS will get an estimated range of 320 miles and an estimated 0-60 mph time of less than 4.0 seconds. It also sports a sleek exterior, a futuristic interior with a 17.7-inch screen, and midsize SUV practicality based on GM’s Ultium battery platform. The base Blazer EV starts at $44,995, while pricing for the Blazer SS will start at $65,995.
2024 Chevrolet Equinox EV
Like the Blazer, the 2024 Chevrolet Equinox arrives in fall 2023 in top-end trim, with lower-trim models phasing afterward. The Equinox EV will offer up to 300 miles range and sleek new looks. It’s also expected to offer AWD and GM’s Super Cruise semi-autonomous driving system. The Equinox EV will start at around $30,000.
2024 Chevrolet Silverado EV
Americans can already buy the all-electric Ford F-150 Lightning, but soon it will have some competition, as the 2024 Chevrolet Silverado EV arrives this fall. The first models to arrive will be top-of-the-range Silverado RST variants, priced around $105,000. The base model will start at just under $40,000. The Silverado EV promises up to 400 miles of range, up to 754 horsepower, and a 0-60 mph time somewhere below 4.5 seconds. GMC has also announced the 2024 Sierra EV, which is not expected to arrive until early 2024.
2023 Cadillac Lyriq
As the brand’s first electric vehicle, the 2023 Cadillac Lyriq represents a big bet, but it’s not a very risky one. Cadillac’s iconic styling inside and out, lots of high-tech features, and 312 miles of range make for a pretty safe bet, especially in its attractive, aerodynamic midsize SUV form. The 2023 Cadillac Lyriq arrives to buyers soon but is already sold out — Cadillac is currently selling 2024 models. The Lyriq starts at $61,795.
2023 Fisker Ocean
Don’t confuse the new Fisker car company for the old one. It’s led by the same Henrik Fisker, but it’s an all-new operation aimed at bringing to market a range of electric vehicles like the Fisker Ocean SUV, which will be its first. Priced to start from $37,499, the Ocean that you can buy in 2023, the top-tier Ocean Extreme, will start from $68,999. For your money, you’ll get a uniquely styled compact crossover with up to 350 miles of range, available AWD, and 0-60 mph in as little as 3.6 seconds.
2023 Genesis Electrified GV70
As the name suggests, the 2023 Genesis Electrified GV70 is an electrified version of its existing gasoline-powered GV70, much like the Electrified G80 sedan in relation to the gasoline-powered G80. So far, Genesis hasn’t confirmed details for the American market, but like the GV60 that went on sale earlier this year, it will also be built in the U.S.
2023 GMC Hummer EV SUV
An iconic look and a huge marketing blitz have made the return of the Hummer brand as an electric subset of the GMC brand household knowledge, but despite the seeming omnipresence of the Hummer brand, the SUV version of the new Hummer doesn’t arrive until early 2023, despite the Hummer EV pickup already reaching its first owners last year. The Hummer EV SUV will start from $79,995, with loaded models costing more than $100,000. Don’t expect to get one soon if you haven’t already reserved it, as there’s already a long waitlist.
2023 Hyundai Ioniq 6
Another all-new EV arriving this year, the 2023 Hyundai Ioniq 6 builds on the brand’s electric Ioniq foundation built out by the Ioniq 5’s arrival last year. In fact, it’s based on the same platform. It has 340 miles of max range and quick charging that can replenish the battery from 10% to 80% charge in just 18 minutes. Hyundai hasn’t announced official U.S. pricing for the Ioniq 6. We expect it to start in the low $40,000s when it arrives on sale early in 2023.
2024 Hyundai Kona Electric
The 2024 Hyundai Kona Electric isn’t just a new model year update for the existing Kona Electric; it’s an all-new car for 2024 that shares its form with its gasoline-powered counterparts. For 2024, it grows in size and features to improve the Kona Electric’s value proposition. We expect Hyundai to provide further details closer to the car’s arrival later this year.
2023 IndiEV Indi One
If you’ve never heard of IndiEV or the 2023 Indi One, you’re not alone. This is not just an all-new car, but an all-new brand. The Indi One has 475 horsepower and a range of up to 300 miles, as well as AWD as standard equipment for a starting price of just $45,000. One of the Indi One’s more unusual features is the VIC (short for Vehicle Integrated Computer). This functions like a PC to let passengers play games, edit photos, and more, all while on the go.
2023 Jeep EV
The upcoming Jeep electric vehicle, previewed by the 2023 Jeep Recon during last year’s Jeep 4xe Day, promises true Jeep features like fully removable doors, serious off-road ability, and familiar — if futuristic — Jeep styling. While it’s not a Wrangler, Jeep says the Wrangler inspired the Recon. That sets a high bar for expectations of its trail performance.
2024 Kia EV9
Revealed at the 2021 Los Angeles Auto Show in decidedly blocky concept form, the 2024 Kia EV9 is due to arrive as a production car in the second half of 2023, likely priced around $50,000 to start. It’s expected to offer three rows of seating and a maximum range of 300 miles or more. Expect more details closer to the EV9’s launch this summer or fall.
2023 Lexus RZ
The leader of the luxury SUV class has turned its eye to the electric luxury SUV world. The 2023 Lexus RZ 450e aims to be the Lexus RX of the EV world, even though it’s slightly smaller than the RX and slightly larger than the NX. According to Lexus, AWD is standard, and the maximum range is 225 miles. The RZ will be priced from about $52,000 when it launches early this year.
2024 Mini Countryman Electric
Little is known about the 2024 Mini Countryman Electric except that it is planned to arrive this year, and will be built at BMW’s Leipzig, Germany, plant. The range for the Mini Countryman Electric could top 300 miles, while performance is expected to be zippy, in line with the Mini brand image. We believe the Aceman concept (pictured) serves as a preview of the upcoming crossover. Look for more details on this premium hatchback-meets-SUV EV later this year.
2023 Polestar 3
As the name suggests, the 2023 Polestar 3 is the third vehicle from the brand, which debuted last October and will be on sale soon. Final specs are still pending, but the Polestar 3 crossover is expected to offer dual-motor AWD, up to 300 miles of range, a choice of two battery packs, up to 517 horsepower, and 0-60 mph times as low as 4.6 seconds. The Polestar 3 will seat five and should start from around $83,900.
2023 Polestar 4
Smaller than the Polestar 3, the 2024 Polestar 4 is also due to arrive this year. However, specifics are still forthcoming. The Polestar 4 is thought to be a sportier SUV-coupe take on the Polestar 3, with similar range and power figures in a more compact, stylish form. Look for further details on the Polestar 4 as its debut draws toward the end of 2023.
2023 VinFast VF 8 and VF 9
Vinfast is a new all-electric vehicle company based in Vietnam that’s looking to make major inroads into the U.S. market with its debut EVs, including the 2023 Vinfast VF 8 and the larger VF 9, both of which come with standard AWD. The VF 8 is positioned as a 2-row SUV, starting from $59,000. The VF 9 is a 3-row SUV priced from $83,000. The VF 8 is expected to deliver up to 316 miles of range, while the VF9 is expected to max out at 369 miles of range. Both the VF 8 and VF 9 will launch exclusively in California at first, with reservations open now.
