Predicted 5-Year Cost to Own: $44,621
Compared to Segment Average: -$3,079
If you think a Lexus is out of your price range, direct your attention to the UX. In addition to being the brand’s newest and smallest SUV, it’s also Lexus’ most affordable new vehicle thanks to a $33,000 starting price. Even better, that low cost remains years after you’ve driven off the dealership lot. For the third year in a row — and now all three years of the UX’s existence — it takes the crown of lowest 5-year ownership cost in its class.
The Lexus UX is available in a variety of models and with a choice of two powertrains. Choose from a standard gasoline engine (UX 200), or a hybrid (UX 250h). In addition to its higher efficiency of nearly 40 mpg, the Lexus UX hybrid includes all-wheel drive, which isn’t offered in the front-drive-only gasoline model.
No matter which UX you choose, you can be sure you’re getting a real-deal Lexus. That means a premium cabin, ample technology, and comfortable driving manners. Of course, Lexus’ renowned reputation for reliability and high resale value are also along for the ride.
Even the least-expensive model is well equipped. It has dual-zone climate control, a power driver’s seat, and a 7-inch infotainment system with smartphone integration. Standard safety features include forward-collision warning with automatic emergency braking, lane-departure warning/lane-keeping assist, and adaptive cruise control.
For 2021, the Lexus UX bolsters its credentials with standard blind-spot monitoring and new USB-C ports for rear-seat passengers. Lexus also added the distinctive Black Line Special Edition for the hybrid. The UX lineup is surprisingly long and includes Lexus’ popular F Sport variants. Common to them all is a premium experience for a cost that’s low both when new and years down the ownership road.
