While Toyota’s luxury division now offers a 3-row L variant of the RX, the preponderance of sales continues to be the shorter 2-row versions. As a result, we’ve kept this vehicle in its original category. There are two models to choose from in the 2-row range: the standard RX 350 powered by a 295-horsepower 3.5-liter V6 with an 8-speed automatic transmission driving the front wheels (all-wheel drive is optional), or the range-topping RX 450h Hybrid which uses a detuned 3.5-liter V6 rated at 259 horsepower with an electric motor that boosts total system output to 308 horsepower and 247 lb-ft of torque. In addition to higher performance, this all-wheel-drive system is able to deliver fuel economy of 31 mpg city and 28 mpg highway.
Lexus traditionally stresses a luxurious cabin and a quiet ride as its chief selling points, but it has also adopted edgier exterior styling to give the brand a more contemporary aura. By delivering the ride and handling characteristics that have created a loyal base, Lexus has also managed with its design to win over a more youthful audience. Sales of the Lexus RX continue to be strong, holding at about 111,000 over the past two years.
Starting at $45,175 (including the $1,025 destination charge) for the front-drive Lexus RX 350 and ranging up through $47,825 base for the Hybrid, the 2020 Lexus RX delivers the category’s lowest 5 Year Cost to Own thanks to its good fuel economy, high quality and above all outstanding resale value.
