Predicted 5-Year Cost to Own: $55,270
The Acura MDX is a stalwart in the luxury 3-row crossover segment, delivering great value with its relative affordability, low maintenance and operating costs and high resale. In taking the 3-row Luxury Midsize SUV/crossover category, the MDX has also done its part to contribute to Acura’s repeat win as the brand delivering the lowest 5-Year Cost to Own figures.
The MDX is in its third year since its last major refresh, but still retains a contemporary look. The clean, crisp exterior gives way to an interior that offers plenty of room in all three rows. In particular, the ease with which you can move the second row for third-row access is a standout feature. There are also plenty of safety features that come as part of the standard AcuraWatch suite of driver assists that includes adaptive cruise control, lane-departure warning and forward collision alert with automatic emergency braking.
Power comes from a 290-horsepower 3.5-liter V6 engine mated to a 9-speed automatic transmission driving the front wheels in base trim. Acura’s Super Handling All-Wheel Drive (SH-AWD) system is optional and the range-topping MDX Sport Hybrid takes that all-wheel-drive performance to a new level thanks to a system that incorporates no less than three electric motors.
The MDX has a high level of technology and utility in a vehicle with a base price of $45,525 including delivery. That starting sticker is thousands less than its European competition and contributes to the overall low cost of operation. On the back end, Acura’s reputation for quality, reliability, and durability allows for lower than average depreciation, which means higher resale and class-leading 5-Year Cost to Own numbers.
