A frequent winner of Kelley Blue Book’s Best Buy Award, as well as a Family Car favorite, the 2020 Chevrolet Tahoe continues this full-size SUV’s tradition of providing impressive 5-Year Cost to Own numbers. For the last five years, the Tahoe has excelled in this category, and a big part of the reason the Tahoe has proven such a durable, reliable SUV is its rugged construction.

This is a 9-passenger SUV that can tow up to 8,600 pounds, offers nearly 95 cubic feet of cargo space behind the front seats, is genuinely off-road capable, and is one of a select few SUVs available with a choice of V8 engines. This is the ideal hauler for getting you and your family to your favorite vacation spot in the mountains or by the lake – especially if you’re towing an RV or a boat there.

But the Tahoe has a lot more to offer than just the capability you’d expect from a truck-based SUV. As we explained in our Expert Review of this Chevy: “The Tahoe drives quite a bit better than you might expect for a big, truck-based body-on-frame SUV, and certainly better than its predecessors. While not quite as comfortable as a car-based crossover SUV, today’s Tahoe rides admirably. This is truer still if you opt for the Magnetic Ride Control suspension that comes on the top-line Premier trim.

“There’s no getting around the Tahoe’s girth that can make it a handful in parking lots and other tight spaces, but its steering is light and makes piloting this ship seamless. On the highway, the Tahoe is refined and quiet. The standard 5.3-liter V8 engine remains a gratifying powerhouse, and its 6-speed automatic transmission is a mostly smooth operator. We’ve tested the Tahoe over hill and dale and while towing off-road vehicles, and it’s always up to the task.”

One of the most impressive attributes of the 2020 Chevrolet Tahoe, though, is the way it makes a vehicle this capable also a nicely refined SUV, with an interior that’s both high-quality and nicely appointed. The Tahoe offers the excellent MyLink infotainment system that provides features such as onboard 4G LTE Wi-Fi, Apple CarPlay and Android Auto compatibility, and an easy-to-use touch screen with large, colorful graphics.

The 3-row version of the Tahoe starts at $49,295 (including the $1,295 destination charge), an impressive price for the capability this SUV offers. However, if you want two rows and maximum cargo volume, you can choose the Custom Edition, which deletes the third row and brings the price down to about $45,000. Factor in the added value of the Tahoe’s projected cost-to-own data, and this good-looking, versatile SUV gets even better.
