Predicted Resale Value After 5 Years of Ownership: 60.6%
The Toyota Tacoma is known for its toughness, reliability, and quality, all of which contribute to its excellent resale value. Not only has the Tacoma earned a spot on the podium every single year dating back to our first Best Resale Value Awards, but it’s also the overall Best Resale Value Award winner for the sixth year in a row.
Toyota’s midsize truck has participated in off-road racing for decades, an arena that serves as ongoing endurance testing. The Tacoma has proven durability and tough construction to survive whatever you ask of it. That can mean anything from daily work and family needs, to towing up to 6,800 pounds, going out to the desert with a dirt bike, or hitting the trail. From staying mostly on road to venturing to extreme off-road areas, there are more than 30 different combinations of trim levels, engines – a 4-cylinder engine or a powerful, efficient V6 – two transmissions, and a wide range of options.
The Tacoma’s three TRD models offer different levels of off-road capability, capped off by the TRD Pro. Trail-friendly features include a Panoramic View Monitor + Multi-Terrain Monitor, for a near-360-view of your surroundings, and a five-second front projected video playback can help you see possible rocks and stumps. Off-roaders can also get a two-speed transfer case, Crawl Control, and Multi-Terrain Select.
For 2020, the Toyota Tacoma benefits from updates that make the interior more comfortable and connected, thanks to the addition of a 10-way power-adjustable seat, and a 7-inch infotainment screen and Apple CarPlay and Android Auto as standard. And, as we explain in our Expert Review, “Seating is comfortable, especially now with the new power-adjustable seat, and the cabin logically arranged with all the most important switchgear within easy reach. The Tacoma’s ride is firm but not jarring, and the steering is impressively responsive.”
