Simply put, the 2020 Kia Telluride wowed us. It won its class of 3-row midsize SUVs – among the segment’s most popular and hotly contested – and won our hearts in the process. The all-new Kia Telluride boasts class, practicality, comfort, and a host of standard safety features and technology, all at a price that could define the word “value.”
Kia clearly did its homework in bringing the Telluride to market. It’s got the substantial size Americans crave, the tech we want (Apple CarPlay, Android Auto and large touchscreens, natch), design that is handsome yet tough, and the kind of active safety features for which some luxury brands still charge extra. Think blind-spot warning, forward-collision alert with automatic emergency braking, lane-keeping assist and adaptive cruise control. They are standard on every Telluride – every one of which also happens to be made in America.
Beyond the bottom line
With a starting price of $31,690, the Kia Telluride brings a lot of vehicle to the table. And perhaps paradoxically, it actually becomes more impressive as you climb trims. Even a loaded, all-wheel-drive, leather-lined model that could pass for a luxury SUV only hits mid-$40,000 territory.
More than just an impressive value story, we truly enjoyed driving and living with the Telluride. It’s an easy and useful companion. The Telluride’s standard V6 is willing, and its driver-adjustable ride manners are comfortable (or sporty or economical, depending on your mood and the mode setting). There is plenty of room inside ready to accommodate families, friends and gear, with your choice of 7- or 8-passenger seating arrangements. We particularly like the second-row captain’s chairs in the former setup.
Large and in charge
The Telluride represents Kia’s largest, most sophisticated, and most impressive crossover SUV to date. It is also the best proof yet of how far the automaker has come in such a relatively short time. Rarely have we seen a brand-new vehicle come on as strong as the Telluride.
This Kia 3-row SUV brings a trove of features to the table, and now it has one more trait to boast about: Being the Kelley Blue Book Best New Model for 2020.
