The Honda Civic is proof that compact cars are not only alive and well amid a sea of big SUVs, but that they are getting better every year. For yet another year, the Honda Civic is our Best Buy Award winner among compact cars. And for another year, it’s gotten even better.

For 2025, the Honda Civic sedan and hatchback gained some exterior and interior design tweaks, along with the model’s first integration of Google built-in. But the big news for the 2025 Civic is the choice of a new hybrid powertrain.

As with its big brother the Honda Accord, the upper trims of the 2025 Civic come standard with a gas-electric hybrid powertrain. With a combined 200 horsepower, the one in the new Civic Hybrid is not only more powerful than the base gasoline engine but also highly efficient, earning up to 49 mpg combined. And like the standard gas model, the new Honda Civic Hybrid is available as both a traditional sedan or a highly practical hatchback.

Not forgetting about the driving enthusiasts who have also long relished this model, the 2025 Honda Civic can also be had as the sporty, turbocharged Si sedan or high-performance Type R — both fitted exclusively with a manual transmission.

Comfortable, Reliable, and Affordable

No matter which Civic you choose or what powertrain is under the hood, it remains worry-free transportation that won’t break the budget. The 2025 Honda Civic deserves a spot atop anyone’s new-car shopping list.

In typical Honda fashion, the Civic offers a comfortable cabin with logical instrumentation that is elegant and easy to figure out. The roomy interior can easily fit four adults (five in a pinch), and cargo space is generous. That latter trait is especially true in the hatchback model, where with the rear seats folded, we were able to fit a full-size bike without having to remove its front wheel.

Understanding that your family’s safety is paramount, Honda equips the Civic with advanced safety and driver assist systems. The standard equipment roster includes automatic emergency braking, lane-keeping assist, and adaptive cruise control, a feature that can take the stress out of driving in bumper-to-bumper traffic.

We’re not the only ones who think highly of the Civic’s commitment to safety. The Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS) awarded the Civic sedan with the Top Safety Pick+ accolade, its highest honor.

Time for a Civics Lesson

Honda keeps pricing simple, starting with the LX sedan trim at $25,400. There’s also the nicely equipped Sport at $27,400. For 2025, the two higher trims are hybrid exclusively — the Sport Hybrid that starts at $30,100 and the top-line Sport Touring Hybrid at $33,100. If you want the added versatility and cargo space of the hatchback model, those are slightly higher yet still a tremendous value.

All models come with the robust Honda Sensing suite of safety features and today’s must-have tech like Apple CarPlay and Android Auto integration, while top models add premium features such as leather seating, a 12-speaker Bose audio system, and an enhanced 9-inch touchscreen.

Getting Your Money’s Worth

Depreciation is one of the biggest detractors when making any purchase, let alone as consequential as buying a new car. Thankfully, we can report that the 2025 Honda Civic holds its value exceptionally well, even after five years of ownership. It’s no wonder the Civic has repeatedly earned a spot in our Best Resale Value Awards time and time again.

Keep in mind that while you may be able to buy a rival compact car for less, going with the Civic ensures you won’t take a bath when it comes time to trade up. If you decide to lease, the same formula holds, where the car’s residual value can affect the monthly payment and buyout. And with the addition of the Civic Hybrid to the 2025 lineup, you can save a potential fortune in fuel costs over the years, too.
