The Genesis GV80 is the brand’s first SUV and a relative newcomer to the midsize luxury SUV segment. It’s already established itself as a leader in this competitive class. The GV80 has a roomy, luxurious interior with available 3-row seating, an engaging drive with two engine options, excellent safety ratings, and a class-leading warranty.
The GV80 is our midsize luxury SUV Best Buy for the third year in a row since its introduction for 2021.
Luxurious Interior
The cabin quality of the Genesis GV80 is on-par with more established and expensive European rivals at an attainable price point. No matter which trim level you go with, the GV80 has a luxurious interior with a stylish design and high-quality materials.
Upgrading from Standard to the Advanced Package adds leather seating, ventilated front seats, a surround-view monitor, and Lexicon audio. The Prestige Package takes it to the next level with Nappa leather seats, a suede headliner, heated and ventilated second-row seats with power adjustment, and much more.
You can personalize this interior with a wide range of color schemes. Not only can you choose the black and beige typical in luxury vehicles, but Genesis also offers more exotic color options, such as Smokey Green leather with a Maroon Brown dash.
Most Genesis GV80 models have two rows of seats, but a third row is optional for extra seating in a pinch. The GV80 is a reasonably affordable luxury SUV with an interior that feels more expensive than it is.
Two Excellent Engines
The 300-horsepower turbocharged 4-cylinder engine in the Genesis GV80 is one of the most exciting base engines in this class and is part of what makes the Genesis a great value. An engine this strong often costs extra in its competitors. As we note in our full review, this engine has more than enough power for the daily commute, plus it returns pretty good fuel economy for a midsize luxury SUV.
The base engine leaves little to no room for complaint. If you crave extra muscle, Genesis offers a twin-turbo V6. The V6 turns up the power to 375 horsepower and the torque to 391 lb-ft for a more exciting drive with effortless acceleration and a satisfying exhaust note.
Both engines have standard all-wheel drive (AWD) in common, which is helpful in snowy weather conditions. AWD also improves traction on dry pavement for more sure-footed handling.
Safe and Dependable
Genesis backs the GV80 with a best-in-class 5-year/60,000-mile basic warranty and a 10-year/100,000-mile powertrain warranty. By contrast, the basic coverage for most of its rivals is for four years/50,000 miles. And no other SUV in this class comes close to the powertrain warranty of the Genesis.
As for safety, the GV80 gets a 5-star overall safety rating from NHTSA and earns the coveted IIHS Top Safety Pick+ award. Its excellent safety ratings result from impressive crash test results and a long list of standard driver assistance tech features.
