The 2023 Genesis GV70 again tops our Best Compact Luxury SUV list, having successfully dethroned the Audi Q5 just last year. It’s no mystery why the GV70 continues to win accolades. Its enticing good looks and feature-rich equipment offerings are alluring, but the GV70’s value story turns just as many heads.
At first glance, the GV70’s pricing looks on par with the Audi Q5, BMW X3, and Mercedes-Benz GLC-Class. Dig a bit deeper, and you’ll find many of the GV70’s standard features are pricey options on its competitors.
Toss in standard all-wheel drive (AWD) and a choice between two powerful turbocharged engines, and it’s easy to see why our resident expert Micah Muzio concluded in his video review of the 2022 model, “If I were in the market for a small, fancy SUV, this is the one I’d choose.”
As compact luxury SUVs go, the Genesis GV70 offers that rare combination of functionality, frugality, and performance, making it equally as enjoyable to use running errands as carving up twisting back roads.
Luxury Abounds
When defining luxury, there’s no better place to start than a car’s interior. It’s here that the GV70 shines brightest. In our full review of the 2023 Genesis GV70, we noted the GV70’s interior offered “an exhilarating mix of tech and sumptuousness.”
Genesis designed every detail to delight, as evidenced by the broad use of color throughout the cabin, as well as little touches like a crystal rotary gear selector and multi-color ambient lighting on the door armrest, footwells, and cup holders. Even the most minor details, such as the intricate metal speaker grilles on the available 16-speaker Lexicon audio system, engender the feeling you’re behind the wheel of something special.
Technology lovers will thrill at features like the 14.5-inch multimedia screen, a 3D digital gauge cluster, and a massaging Ergo Motion driver’s seat. Need to pay for parking or gas but forgot cash? No problem. Touch the GV70’s fingerprint sensor, and the Genesis Pay app takes care of everything. There’s even a rear seat occupant detection function that can detect breathing or motion and alert the driver to check the back seat.
Get Your Go On
Genesis provides two flavors for the GV70: hot and spicy hot. The 2.5T gets a 300-horsepower turbocharged 4-cylinder engine capable of rocketing the little SUV to 60 mph in just under six seconds. The 375-hp 3.5T adds two more cylinders and twin turbochargers for two times the fun.
Of course, it’s essential to ensure the GV70 stays firmly planted. A host of electronic helpers do just that. Among the available systems is an electronically controlled adaptive suspension with a front-mounted camera. The camera observes and corrects for impending road imperfections about to pass beneath the GV70’s tires.
A taut suspension, a limited-slip rear differential, and a host of electronic traction, launch, and stability control systems all add to the driving enjoyment yet don’t result in a ride that is too harsh or unforgiving.
Ten Years of Worry-Free Driving
We know the most challenging part about plunking down big bucks on a luxury vehicle is the dreaded cost of repairs once the warranty expires. For many brands, the expiration date ranges from three to five years, depending on the part. But the GV70’s engine and drivetrain are covered for ten years or 100,000 miles. In addition, its full bumper-to-bumper coverage spans five years or 60,000 miles. Odds are you’ll have paid off your loan before the warranty expires, taking the worry out of future cost to own concerns.
