On a mission to put its stamp on future mobility, Ford loads up the 2023 Ford F-150 with technology while electrifying the lineup with a hybrid and fully electric model. Amid this transformation, Ford continues to exceed buyers’ expectations. Whether it’s a basic work truck, an opulent people mover, or something in between, Ford offers an F-150 to do the job.
There is good reason Kelley Blue Book is naming the 2023 F-150 a Best Buy Award winner among full-size trucks for the ninth consecutive year: Year after year, it sets the bar for capability, fuel economy, and technology.
Bang for the Buck
Recommending the F-150 isn’t difficult, and naming it to KBB’s list of Best Buy Award winners is simply a no-brainer. With its vast array of cab configurations, choice of six powertrains, eight trim levels, and more, there is an F-150 for every truck buyer. When appropriately equipped, it can haul more and tug more than its rivals. The Baja-inspired, sand-racing Raptor is a force of nature. Moreover, the top-of-the-line Limited grade provides all the splendor and comfort of a high-end Euro luxury sedan.
Regardless of where you land on the F-150 trim-level range, Ford will surprise you with the level of technology, comfort, and performance. Even in its base XL trim, Ford packs it with features like the SYNC 4 infotainment interface with Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, and an available Wi-Fi hot spot. It also comes with the comprehensive Ford Co-Pilot360 bundle of safety and driver-aid technologies.
As you work your way to the top of the trim-level ladder, the F-150 gains in convenience and technology. For some grades like the Tremor and Raptor, those gains are in the form of additional off-road capability. On other trim levels like the King Ranch, Platinum, and Limited, the enhancements bring more convenience and comfort.
Doing the Hard Work
Whether you need to get a trailer to the job site or a boat to the lake, the Ford F-150 excels in towing. In fact, when armed with the 3.5-liter EcoBoost twin-turbo V6, it can pull 14,000 pounds. However, the F-150’s capability as a work truck doesn’t end with its towing and hauling numbers. Ford offers a system that makes easy work of hooking up your trailer. Furthermore, the Pro Trailer Backup Assist uses cameras and the touchscreen to help you back up your truck and trailer. Opt for the Smart Hitch, and it will even gauge tongue weight to aid in distributing the trailer’s load.
An option with three of the F-150’s engines and the hybrid powertrain is the Pro Power Onboard mobile generator. With it, you can run several power tools simultaneously at the job site. During our time with the F-150 recently, we learned to appreciate the built-in tailgate step. It made climbing into and out of the cargo box easy. Oh, and no matter the trim level, the tailgate features lift assist.
Safety
Not so long ago, no one gave much consideration to a pickup truck’s safety acumen. A leader in changing that mindset, the F-150 provides a bevy of safety technologies. Beginning with the Co-Pilot360 suite of safety and driver-aid technologies, the F-150 bristles with features to help keep you and yours safe. Forward collision warning with automatic emergency braking and pedestrian detection, lane-keeping assist, lane-departure warning, and rear-park assist are standard across the board. So is high-beam assist. Available on the base XL trim but included for upper grades are blind-spot monitoring, rear cross-traffic alert, and automatic reverse braking.
Moving up from the XL to the XLT is a gateway to options like a surround-view monitor, adaptive cruise control, lane-centering assist, and intersection assist. As you move up through the trim levels, these technologies become standard.
The 2023 Ford F-150 excels by nearly every measure. Among those measures is resale value, where the Ford F-Series was one of Kelley Blue Book’s 10 Best Overall Resale Values for 2022.
