The average price of a new electric car in 2022 reached $66,000. Don’t fret; plenty of great EVs are priced well below that. One example is the 2023 Chevrolet Bolt EUV, which just snagged a 2023 KBB Best Buy Award as our Best EV Under $35,000.
As a slightly longer version of the Bolt EV, the Bolt EUV (Electric Utility Vehicle) impressed the KBB editors with its roomy back seat, excellent build quality, great price, and impressive 247-mile range. With attributes like these, it’s no wonder the Bolt EUV secured a spot on KBB’s list of Best Electric Vehicles of 2022 and 2023.
Compact but Roomy
Even though it’s nearly a foot shorter than a Toyota Corolla (making it easy to park in the city), the 2023 Chevy Bolt EUV is far roomier than you’d expect, especially in the back. A person who’s 6-foot 2-inches tall can ride comfortably behind a driver of the same height, and you won’t have to apologize to that couple who must ride in back on the way to dinner. What’s more, the cargo area aft of the split-folding rear seat swallows a week’s worth of groceries easily.
Although our particular Bolt EUV test vehicle (a Premier model) has a massive sunroof panel, headroom abounds. Moreover, the interior quality rises above expectations, and we appreciate how Chevrolet uses traditional volume and tuning knobs for the audio system. Some controls don’t need to be improved.
Solid Residual Value, Fun Driving Manners
KBB expects the 2023 Chevy Bolt EUV to maintain 54% of its residual value after 36 months, which compares favorably to its competitive set.
Another big part of the Bolt EUV’s appeal? It’s fun to drive. In our KBB Expert Review of the U.S.-built 2023 Chevy Bolt EUV, we praised it for having a zippy feel and for being outstanding in city driving. And with One Pedal Drive, you hardly ever need to touch the brakes. We love how the Regen on Demand paddle (on the steering wheel) lets you fine-tune the amount of deceleration and brake energy regeneration.
Great Miles per Dollar
With EVs in general, but especially those on the affordable end of the spectrum, folks measure their value simply: by how far they can go on a full charge and at what price. It’s a fair, real-world approach. By this measurement, the 2023 Chevrolet Bolt EUV, with a range of 247 miles and a base price of $27,200, shines brightly.
Both Bolt EUV trim levels fit well below our $35,000 threshold. Even the LT base model has an extensive safety suite and niceties like wireless Apple CarPlay. But the Bolt EUV Premier ($32,695) considerably ups the luxury and tech quotient with heated leather seats and adaptive cruise control, a blind-spot monitor, and a rear camera mirror. The piece de resistance on the Premier has to be its available $2,200 SuperCruise Package. SuperCruise is GM’s semi-autonomous driving system that permits hands-free driving on more than 200,000 miles of approved highways.
Whether you’re looking for a simple little electric runabout or a luxurious EV bristling with modern technology, the remarkably refined and roomy 2023 Chevrolet Bolt EUV commands attention as a 2023 KBB Best Buy Award winner, our Best EV Under $35,000.
