Audi Recall History

Check your Audi’s Vehicle Identification Number or VIN at KBB’s Car Recalls above.

Audi has been part of some significant recalls over the past several years including some cars and SUVs recalled for Violations of the EPA Clean Air Act over excessive diesel emissions, while others have been recalled for faulty Takata airbag inflators.

While not a safety recall, Audi, a division of the Volkswagen Group, has admitted to bypassing the emissions control systems in 15,000 Audi A3 vehicles powered by its 2.0-liter TDI diesel engine sold in the US since 2008. Later, the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) stated that Volkswagen Group failed to comply with the Clean Air Act regulations based on the 2014-2016 3.0-liter V6 Diesel as used in about 44,000 Audi (Q5, Q7, A6, A7, A8, A8L) vehicles.

On the Takata front, Audi issued a recall February 2016, for model year 2009-2012 Audi Q5, and 2010-2011 Audi A5 Cabriolet vehicles. In the event of a crash, the inflator could rupture with metal fragments striking occupants resulting in serious injury or death.

Audi also recalled nearly 6,000 model year 2017 Audi A7, A4, and A6 vehicles for driver frontal airbags, passenger frontal airbags or head airbags that may not deploy properly. In addition, 2017 Audi Q7, A4 sedan, A4 Allroad and 2018 Audi Q5 vehicles were recalled to inspect belt pretensioners that may not activate properly.

Also in March 2017, Audi recalled 2013-2017 Audi A5, A5 Cabriolet and Q5 vehicles, 2013-2016 Audi Allroad and Audi A4 vehicles and 2012-2015 Audi A6 vehicles for an engine cooling fault with the 2.0-liter Turbo FSI engine resulting in the coolant pump overheating. That can increase the risk of an engine fire.

In May 2017, Audi recalled 2015-2017 Audi A7 vehicles with faulty head curtain airbags that may not deploy properly in a crash. If the airbag fails to open an unbelted passenger has an increased risk of injury.

Audi recalled model year 2013-2017 Audi Q5 in 2013-2017 Audi Q7 vehicles with a fuel pump flange that may crack allowing fuel to leak. A fuel leak in the presence of an ignition source increases the risk of fire.

In June 2017, Audi recalled 2016-2017 Audi Q3 vehicles for faulty brakes where the brake lights on the vehicle will not activate, failing to warn that the vehicle is stopping and increasing the risk of a crash from the rear.
