The 2025 Audi A7 offers all the style, tech, and plushness of a midsize luxury car while also incorporating hatchback practicality. Pricing starts at $73,295.
Audi calls it a Sportback, but we all know that an A7 is essentially an A6 with a hatchback and packing the sedan’s optional V6 engine. There’s absolutely nothing wrong with that, and more than a lot of that is right. The A7 is smooth, quick, arguably handsome, and indisputably useful. Build quality and cabin materials add to an overall impressive picture. For any luxury buyer who needs a bit of cargo-carrying versatility but doesn’t want to get an SUV, the 2025 A7 could be just the thing.
The higher-powered S7 and RS7 each have separate reviews.
We’ve logged hundreds of hours driving and evaluating this generation of midsize luxury cars, including the Audi A7.
The HomeLink remote garage door button is now integrated into the rearview mirror, and the free Audi Connect Nav trial subscription has been increased from six months to three years. The optional Convenience bundle for the Premium trim gains the LED Interior Lighting Plus package. Premium Plus gains dual-pane acoustic glass, quad-zone automatic climate control, ventilated front seats, and heated rear seats. The top Prestige trim gets upgraded front seats with massaging and extended high-quality leather upholstery.
This second generation of A7 launched for the 2019 model year. An all-new version could debut for 2026.
The 2025 Audi A7 has a starting sticker price of $73,295, with the range-topping A7 55 TFSI Prestige kicking off at $83,745. But Kelley Blue Book Fair Purchase Pricing currently suggests paying $2,236 to $3,713 less than MSRP, depending on trim and equipment. These prices are updated weekly.

---|---|---|---|---|
$73,295 | $71,059 | |||

Both the Premium Plus and Prestige trims sell relatively well. At this level, most buyers can afford what they want.
There aren’t any direct rivals, as most other midsize luxury cars have trunks instead of the A7’s hatchback. Such versatility comes at a cost, however, with the A7 starting out higher than its A6 stablemate, along with the BMW 5 Series, Mercedes-Benz E-Class, and Genesis G80.
Before buying a new A7 midsize luxury car, check the Kelley Blue Book Fair Purchase Price to know what you should be paying. Resale values are among the strongest in this class. Recouping more money when selling a vehicle can mean a bigger down payment and lower monthly payments on the next one.
One reason the A7 starts out at a higher price than the A6 is that it comes with the sedan’s larger engine as standard. This turbocharged V6 makes a substantial 335 horsepower, enabling a zero-to-60-mph sprint time of around 5.2 seconds. We think that’s fairly quick and perfectly sufficient muscle for most situations, as well as appropriate for a luxury car.
We should point out, though, that the 375-hp BMW 540i xDrive hits 60 mph in 4.4 seconds while bearing a smaller price tag. We could repeat that sentence and replace the BMW with the Mercedes-Benz E 450 4Matic, and the rest of it would still apply.
The A7 has a flowing, smooth ride quality that’s luxurious yet still able to keep its cool on hot dashes down curving roads. Road trips and city traffic — it’s all in the A7’s wheelhouse.
The A7 achieves 25 mpg in combined city/highway driving, the same as the Mercedes-Benz E 450 4Matic. The BMW 540i xDrive returns 28 mpg combined.
We love the shape of the A7 Sportback, even though the sloping roof shaves off a little rear passenger space compared with the A6 sedan. There’s still plenty of space for four average-sized adults, and the cabin’s overall ambiance remains one of the classiest in any luxury vehicle.
The quality of the materials is exemplary; likewise, the build and ergonomics are well thought-out. The dual-screen infotainment system takes a little practice, but the Virtual Cockpit digital driver’s display remains one of our favorite tech features in the A7.
Optional luxury touches include ventilated front seats (heated front seats are standard), massaging front seats, heated rear seats, quad-zone climate control, upgraded leather upholstery, and beautiful Bang & Olufsen audio systems.
Because the A7 is a hatchback with 40/20/40-split folding rear seats, it offers greater versatility for carrying people or cargo than its A6 counterpart. Behind the rear seats is a luggage area of 24.9 cubic feet, far more than any trunk in the midsize sedan class.
It’s easy to see why the A7 still turns heads, despite having so much in common with its more conservative A6 sedan sibling. Its tapering roofline gives the impression that the car is in motion even when its parked. The tailgate is wonderfully practical, opening wide to reveal an extremely roomy trunk. The LED taillights run the full width of the A7’s tush, adding an extra element of design panache. Wheel sizes range from 20 to 22 inches in diameter.
All-wheel drive
All-wheel drive (AWD) enables great grip in the dry, allowing the A7 to get its power down quickly and effectively. In rough weather, it adds confidence. We’re happy to see that Audi’s quattro all-wheel-drive system is standard in the A7.
Virtual Cockpit
Although no longer a new technology, Audi’s Virtual Cockpit still impresses with its clarity and ease of use. This digital driver information display has sharp graphics and, despite the wealth of information available, doesn’t require hours of practice to master.
Adaptive Cruise Assist
This feature combines adaptive cruise control with active lane centering and Traffic Jam Assist, doing a lot of the work during long freeway stretches. The driver must keep hold of the steering wheel and remain focused on the road ahead, but we still think it’s good to have. It becomes standard at the A7’s Premium Plus level.
Head-up display
Like the Virtual Cockpit, it’s not cutting-edge tech, but we like to see crucial information projected into the windshield so we can keep our eyes better focused on the road ahead. This is standard in the Prestige trim and optional in the Premium Plus trim.
Bang & Olufsen audio
In our opinion, this 16-speaker/710-watt surround-sound system is always a pleasure to experience. Again, it is another standard in the Prestige and an option in the Premium Plus version.
Adaptive dampers
These are available as an option with the top Prestige trim, bringing a broader range between comfort and sportiness.
The A7 employs a turbocharged 3.0-liter V6 that develops a meaty 335 hp and 369 lb-ft of torque. This is paired with a 7-speed automatic transmission, and all-wheel drive is standard.
Audi’s new-vehicle and powertrain warranties last four years or 50,000 miles, whichever happens first. This coverage is typical among European luxury car makers. Audi also throws in four years of roadside assistance.
The Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS) has named earlier model years of the A7 a Top Safety Pick+. Last year’s version scored top marks of Good in the three crash tests carried out by the institute. It hasn’t been tested by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA).
